I use reading glasses. Couldn't find them immediately this morning as I opened my email on my phone. I could see enough to make out the senders and swipe-deleted any email from any merchandiser without being able to read even a word of the previews. They could have been giving their stock away for free and I happily didn't know. Liberally temporarily muting accounts on here today, too. #BlackFriday

I hate that already my emails are filling up with "Black Friday Deals" from everyone - the little bookshops and continuing ed courses too. I like charity until Giving Tuesday rolls around. And, of course Cyber Monday . . .

Capitalism taints everything and so many cannot afford to ignore the deals.

Besides "not buying," any good ideas for a good replacement focus (without becoming a new empty ritual)?

US Veterans Day - Peace

Veterans Day is always a hard day for me. I grew up in a military family and my brother and son-in-law served. I know what this service means to individuals and families. I also worked in a nonprofit that specifically works with active-duty, retirees, and veterans through issues of #PTSD, #MoralInjury, #MilitarySexualAssault, #DomesticViolence, and just general military culture.

When the goal should be toward creating increased world #peace and learning how to increase #diplomacy, #EarlyWarning, #CapacityBuilding of countries to meet the needs of their people, and mitigating #ClimateDisruption, the glorification of military might and nationalism within the US, especially on #VeteransDay, makes me exquisitely uncomfortable.

I don't have a great insight to share. Just needed a place to share how I am feeling today.
