I wonder how many people realize just how good Linux is. With the expiration of Windows 10 computers, it would be a great antidote to capitalist greed if people recycled and repurposed everything they can, especially computers. Nearly every 64 bit machine will run a Linux distro wonderfully.

A6: I've had a recumbent bicycle in my fleet since 2003. I ride uprights a bunch, but I especially enjoy riding a recumbent on long scenic rides. I don't really get why more people aren't riding them. I suspect there is a kind of ableism operating in the psyche of many "fit" cyclists.

A5: In Minnesota, we have Quality Bicycle Products. While I wouldn't exactly call them a manufacturer-- I think they have great products. I have a Salsa Spearfish MTB and a Salsa Mukluk fat bike.

For a time, fat bikes were very much a Minnesota thing. Surly Pugsleys were kind of an "assemble your own kit" project. Fun times.

A1: We are in an in-between state of being, having purchased the home we will retire to before I retire from my United Methodist parish.

We are moving to Fosston, MN (population 1400). I was surprised to be bicycling past the water treatment plant where I could hear a strange buzzing during the night. (gravel roads of winter on a recumbent trike.)

#bikenite ... What I wanted to share yesterday-- perhaps in response to the question about recycled components: I have a collection of varied old bicycles. I stopped buying new bicycles quite some time ago-- but the old ones keep finding me. Recently I was given a tadpole trike from a friend who stopped cycling because arthritis was taking away the fun. Most bicycles have a long life. (carbon frames are another subject.)

If you ask nicely some bike shops will allow you to peruse old parts.

I am getting ready for my first POTA activation. I have not been active for many years.
I have a Xiegu X6100, a Chameleon Delta Loop, Coax, and a QRP guys end fed for backup. I've not yet purchased an external battery. (I do have some CW paddles on the way.) Radio and antenna seem fairly well covered. Now I need to sort out logging and reporting.

Am I missing anything?

I retire in June-- planning to make this part of what I do.

Back in the day... 1979ish. I bought my first HF Rig (an NCX-3 with sweep tube finals) and put a big (for me) audacious signal on the air. Much to my surprise, I had much more joy running a dilapidated hamfest flea HW-7 on 40 meters than I ever did with the big rigs. (and there were other attempts and rigs).
A Norcal 40a in the early 2000's had a similar joy. Now I am retiring and WoW! QRP antennas and POTA have become so much more. I'm excited.
