So many cool new friends on Mastodon! Great to see some folks who have crossed over from the B*rd A*p and some new people who I'm eager to get to know. In the interest of eventually moving my entire presence over here I'll be reposting some of my past work and hopefully dropping hints to some new projects. This article was published in March of 2022 for Left Coast Right Watch - a breakdown of the way fascist movements launder their images through online misinformation and cult-like social adherence.

Hard to describe the behavior of internet fascists and nationalist pundits following the Q Club shooting as anything other than a coordinated campaign of gleeful accelerationism. Like just adrenaline-fueled, bloody-mouthed, frothing validation from every ugly corner of the internet all at once. Stochastic terrorists like Matt Walsh and Chaya Raichik and others have been calling for this for years, but it's also hard not to see anyone but Musk as the wide-smiled ringleader of this whole rapidly escalating situation. His reinstatement of some of Twitter's most spiteful former villains is just pure positive reinforcement to a demographic that wants nothing more for their thought leaders to endorse mass violence. His interaction with attention-seeking culture warriors from across the right wing has legitimized their hatred and boosted their platforms. His wealth - both social and capital - forces the economic world at large to quantify and realize these insane internet forces, basically bringing them into reality by their connection to Musk's money. His culling of Twitter employees has destroyed content moderation policies sitewide, leading to mass reporting and suppression of left-wing voices. Institutional guardrails like the criminal justice system have been proven over and over to be ineffective, or more often willing participants in the violence. Everything channers have desperately wanted for a decade has suddenly become shockingly tangible. They don't know how to do anything else but escalate, and they're not incentivized to stop or even slow down.

Hey Mastodon! Hope some of you may know me from Philly Twitter but it looks like I'll be starting largely from scratch here. No big deal, I've successfully transitioned social media platforms many times in my online life - from MLIA to Goodreads to Tumblr to Twitter and now, Mastodon and Substack. That might change too, but right now I'm just getting my feet under me while Twitter burns just over the hill like a ransacked Roman town.
Maybe I'll post some of my older content here just to drop some context to this new account, but I'm looking forward to making a new internet life with yall. Who is Mastodon's #1 Poster? what accounts make this website worth visiting? I'm excited to find out! As humans we are always finding the cracks in the firmament of society and developing new and free worlds together, separate from billionaire chronic posters. Let's get started again!
