We finished the hobbit earlier this year and the kids have asked to dude into Lord of the Rings as some of their friends’ families are doing the same. As the reader it’s a definite jump but I’m hoping it will help my speaking cadence and vocabulary improvement as well. I read this fully last 15 years ago and have been chasing around the Simarillion and some of the other side books. Glad to get back to the core for a while.

It’s like rolling into the kitchen saying “time for three star Michelin!” and realizing you are missing half the ingredients.

We rarely have runs like this where we are single digit lows and not breaking 30 during the day, so some complex system doesn’t make sense.

Curious about what this new update in Docker has hanging out inside the 2GB of package size that triggered this warning.
Is anyone seeing similar reactions?

On one hand, it's one less login and credit pool I need to maintain, but I question if this will be good for end users. No/low competition means no/low innovation. I personally prefer the iStock interface (already under the Getty umbrella). We're seeing a similar consolidation in fonts with Monotype eating the world.
What's your take on how this will work out?

You click a link to an article, and it's paywalled (or requires login). No problem, I've actually paid for an account here / have a login / etc. So you login, and you expect to then read the article you were on.
Oh no, dear user, we're going to take you back to an index that doesn't even have that article on it, and if you didn't save that URL, clicking back is broken as well. Good luck finding that article again!
Medium, do better.

Click through and it’s correct. I can o yo guess that it’s somehow counting the cores on my Mac Studio to get these ludicrous numbers of hours per hour. Anyone seen this kind of thing?

Thanks to my partners in running this, Todd Rogers & Glenn Chase, and the scores of editors cataloging, scanning, and publishing the history. Design is starting to show its age, and PDF generation has driven me slightly mad, but it's all well worth it.
