A lot of newbs are justifiably complaining that they don't know where to start, and they're having a hard time finding a well-moderated instance with shared interests.

Maybe there's value in a rate-limited introduction-only instance for posts like "hello, I'm X, formerly @X on twitter, my interests are Y, Z, where my people at? Which instance should I transfer to?"

Really good opportunity for community-building volunteers to watch the public feed and help newbies find their place. #newbie

One of the downsides to the infinite scroll provided by commercial social media is that I rarely ever got around to reading a lot of the really good long form articles that were posted, because the drip feed of the scroll was always easier to digest. A new behaviour I'm trying to cultivate on #fediverse is that once I get to the end of my feed and see posts I've already seen before, I switch to my bookmarks and actually follow through on reading the long form stuff I've put away for later.

Fortunately, I recently discovered https://starship.rs/, which lowers the difficulty down to something that's more of an enjoyable but extremely nerdy puzzle.
