Sometimes, traces of the past haunt our landscapes discreetly. An incongruously thick wall across a wooded valley. Border infrastructures left over from war and conflict, easy to miss from a train window. This was once the #GothicLine, a place of fierce battles in Northern Tuscany, during WW2. There are many more, more photographed places along this line, like the superb Ponte della Maddalena. But I search out the ghosts, the lines, the stones. #Bornées #AlongTheLine #slowTravel #Trains

Ten years on from the massacre at Charlie Hebdo, time to revisit my essay on "Resisting with and through comics" published in Society & Space. Lots has changed since then, more threats to cartoons & comics (like at WaPo last week), but still a need to use subversion, satire & humour to speak truth to power. And LAUGH at them, too.

The trouble when you write a book that’s something like a fieldwork-based graphic essay, is that booksellers don’t always know where to put it. So I was thrilled to find “Bornées” in the comics section of a big bookshop today, where — in my mind — it belongs. (Total ego trip, I know, shameful etc etc but hey!)
