So I'd say I am super sceptical on their deduced SMBH redshift evolution based on vastly different samples of SMBHs measured with vastly different techniques. And on that one sample selection they base their grande conclusion of SMBHs being dark energy 😳
As usual the only conclusion I am getting is: exceptional claims need exceptional evidence. And based on that sample I am not even remotely convinced SMBHs are dark energy.

They assume almost no SMBH mass evolution from redshift 2 to today for Ellipticals. The paper only seems to consider SMBHs grow from gas accretion (which is not true).
A former galaxy nuclei with a SMBHs can still merger into the center of a giant Elliptical long after the direct tidal features have resolved. This is also not tracked by cosmological simulations very well & thus they are not a good reference here.

They assume almost no SMBH mass evolution from redshift 2 to today for Ellipticals....What I find super worrisome though is that they used vastly different samples for this comparison. And while they try to account for those it remains that high-redshift SMBH mass measurements ALL depend on the low-redshift direct stellar dynamical ones.
This is via the viral factor f that all high-redshift mass measurements use and its *calibrated* to low redshift direct stellar dynamical mass measurements.

Thus they say you need an offset in SMBH mass that the blue & orange high redshift samples are consistent with the (red) local Universe ones.

Thought this is some misinformation but its actually based on two ApJ papers.

I just learned about this paper on the new closest SMBH/AGN pair that was shown at the #AAS241 and highlighted in a press release.
Absolutely shocked by how the author do not even CITE the only previously known SMBH pair at sub-kpc separation. At this point its so flagrant I can only assume its intentional.

The sun greeted me on my lunch run today but even then it’s not very high above the horizon anymore. So happy there are longer days coming 😊
We went from a polar vortext deep freeze to what feels like spring weather in 48 hours.

The hardest part about applying for academic jobs is to convey full confidence when you’ve lost all hope. Merry application season to me 😒

Twitter feels so icky these days I am glad we have this new corner here on mastodon but so far I am still using it less than twitter. Any recs for iOS mastodon apps that are good? I have none yet.

Let's do a quick #astrodon #instroduction shall we? I am an astronomer working on nuclear star clusters and their supermassive black holes. I am currently based in Strasbourg France. In my free time I am an avid runner and have completed several marathons!
