Not that I was planning on getting a Rivian anyway, but very certain after reading this. Imagine having a driver constantly chatting to the car, the horror! I'm very happy with my Kia EV 6, which have a lot of buttons on the steering wheel, some are customisable. 👍🚘

One more time to all the .NET people in the back: your file and directory structure is not your application architecture!

You can do ports/adapters (architecture) and feature folders (file structure) at the same time.

It is late 2023 and you can still not disable the taskbar blinking on new messages in Microsoft Teams. Currently reviewing Linux Mint and really liking what I see, so perhaps 2024 is the year of Linux on the desktop.
I might still have to use Teams but then I'll at least contain the madness in a browser. And no, it won't be Edge.

But the nagging was there as well and every other week there was some new "feature" that I did not want, that was in my face, and that I had to disable in Windows registry. So it's gone now of course and won't be back. It is such a strange marketing strategy, but I suppose they don't care about losing customers like me, however (previously) loyal.

The thing is, Firefox is my main browser and has been since it was called Firebird. But I actually also used Edge for work stuff where my client used Microsoft 365. Decent browser and it was nice to keep things separated.

...but I think I just won't bother anymore. What I've heard from people using Windows 11 it's only getting worse. It's been a long and good run but perhaps 2024 is the year for Linux on the desktop, at least for me. The constant nagging to use Edge and share all your data is just too much when you've already paid for the OS.

"Microsoft should respect the fact that people already pay for Windows and don’t want ads shoved down their throats. "

This is the reason why I am finally moving away from Windows from all my devices except perhaps the gaming PC. I have really enjoyed using Windows XP/7/10 for programming for many years, and have always made an effort in all projects to keep them workable on Windows as well as Mac OS and Linux.

After years of trial and error I think I've found the perfect seat on the train type I usually travel on.

It's not close to any noisy sliding doors. I can fetch coffee without losing Bluetooth connection. I can see if the bathroom is available but it's not close so no queue beside me. And it's often available as the seat is facing the wrong direction, which I fortunately have no problem with.

Man, I just love travelling by train. đŸš†â€ïž

Listening to what the café I'm at is playing as background music. It is a stream of covers of classics like California Dreamin' and Everywhere. The voice correction is laid on thick and the beats oddly familiar between the songs. It is deeply and utterly uninteresting.

The whole recent AI hype comes to mind. The tech is very impressive of course but who will enjoy the output?

It seems like a lot of people in the community conflate application architecture with project and directory structure. For example, I often see critizism of the ports and adapters architecture because it supposedly forces you to put interfaces in a single directory or have all data access in one project and similar misconceptions?

Not my understanding at all.

Finally watching the Book of Boba Fett and listening to the theme song by Ludwig Göransson I cannot help but notice some inspiration from the old Swedish movie "Ronja Rövardotter" based on the Astrid Lindgren book. Cannot unhear it so now I am thinking of bearded Swedish bandits everytime an episode ends.
