I was thinking of replacing the old RAID mirror drive set in one of my servers, and I checked the SMART POH. 130539. That's nearly 15 years of run time. They're also WD 1TB Green drives. Those things are notoriously unreliable. My jaw is on the floor.

I'm always amazed when I see ZFS save me like this. This is a 12TB Seagate ST12000NM0158 data center grade SAS hard drive with a little over 3 years of POH. 88 checksum errors? In a RAID system or any other system (modulo ReFS), this would've been corrupted user data returned to the application. Staggering.

I tried to make my first contribution to Home Assistant. My change allowed Thread/Matter to work on secondary ethernet interfaces. Good for things like keeping all your Matter devices on a guest WiFi network.

This Home Assistant guy (https://github.com/frenck) rejected my change with a comment of (quote from the PR) "Honestly, I'm against adding features like this; as this is an problem on advanced networking, we generally do not want to support or be bothered with."

He closed my PR.

I've been a software developer for 20+ years. If this is how the gatekeepers for HA treat first time contributors, they're going to alienate a lot of people. They've already alienated me.

I think I've about had enough of my job. Management is detached from reality in so many aspects. They run these planning sessions of what we're going to do, put timelines around them, and then expect us not to cut corners to meet those timelines, but will not give the time to do it the right way. They don't understand that you can't have all 3 (quality, speed, price [which is fixed, since we're salaried employees]). So, if they want speed, quality suffers.

They've also been ramping up policies like come into the office more days a week, whilst not providing enough parking or desks for us to sit at. I'm pretty senior, and we've had a policy that people at my level or above can request to go fully remote. I put in my request yesterday, and was told today that it was denied, and they'd changed the policy. They are also not requiring people who were previously granted fully remote to now come back in, so... double standard.

Well, the head I chose from a few days ago was so broken, it couldn't even recognize it's own config on a reboot.

DON'T USE VYOS ROLLING RELEASE!
