while texting (like you’re texting someone that minute) even simple questions from volunteers would go answered - often for HOURS - and...

while texting (like you’re texting someone that minute) even simple questions from volunteers would go answered - often for HOURS - and volunteers were strongly discouraged from answering each others questions. I reconnected with several volunteer team leaders from Warren’s 2020 campaign, people I knew were amazing at both connecting with other volunteers and voters alike. none of them were being utilized, all of them were taken aback by how badly things were run, and most (including me) left.

haven’t volunteered for a ton of campaigns but in my limited experience, I’ve seen that texting is usually a distant third behind in-person canvassing and phone banking - but even by those low standards, the texting was understaffed and given minimal resources. (ex: staff member who was supposed to lead a zoom call training for 200 volunteers showed up an hour late then gave such a cursory overview of how texting works that the campaign discord was flooded with basic questions)

we didn’t engage voters AT ALL, texts were all strictly “do you want to volunteer, do you want to attend this event” and the very explicit rule if someone brought up Palestine was to stop replying immediately - no canned response, no escalation to staff, just ghost them.
