Star Trek: Picard is all about empowering female characters to levels that never could have been imagined during the Berman era. Seven, once eye-candy for the adolescent male gaze, is now Captain of the Enterprise. Crusher is an unmitigated badass. And Troi FINALLY managed to pilot the Enterprise without immediately crashing into whatever happened to be directly in front of them.

There’s much say about how amazing Picard s3 is, but I don’t think we’re saying enough about how AMAZING Stephen Barton’s work is, and not just for “including” historic Trek motifs in the score. Along the way he’s quietly added improvements - some extra trumpets here, a suspension/resolution there - which have SERIOUSLY improved already magnificent old pieces. It’s one thing to bluntly rework known themes, but it takes serious skill to add to them so subtly as to be nearly undetectable. Bravo!
