9.5.2024 13:26The second half of my reflections.#AlphaMedia #KRES #KWIX #Moberly #MissouriI had a chance to process the news and reflect, not only on what this means for my career going forward, but what Tuesday's moves could do to the fabric of #rural #Missouri.
The best way I can describe it is a turning of the page. I might not have made the recent page turn, but it's a new chapter, and I'm looking to start writing the next one.
Screenshots of my reflections attached to this and the next post.

Unfortunately, it's going to be awhile longer. #AlphaMedia eliminated all local content creation for their stations across rural #Missouri. I was among those let go.
I'm doing well at the moment. Several of my colleagues are also coming to terms with the move. A good chunk of the state will be hurting for awhile, as a trusted source for decades was scaled down in a matter of minutes.

Enforcement of Gov. Parson's new executive order restricting #farmland sales in #Missouri near military facilities will fall on the state's #Agriculture Department, who continue to craft the rules that will be used to review all attempted purchases by foreign buyers going forward.

A few downgrades offset some upgrades in Eastern #Missouri in this week's #drought monitor. 71.5% of the state remain in some stage of drought.

If I counted correctly, there are roughly 21 counties in #Missouri where a majority of acreage is impacted by Gov. Parson's executive order. That includes Pettis County, whose state rep is expressing support for the governor's action.

Gov. Mike Parson announced an executive order Tuesday banning #China and other nations on the State Department's list of "foreign adversaries" from purchasing farmland within 10 miles of critical military facilities in #Missouri. The order covers roughly one-fourth of the state's ag acreage and comes ahead of this year's legislative session, where lawmakers could pursue even tighter restrictions.

Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer has announced that he will not seek re-election this fall, bringing his time in #Congress to a close after eight terms. The Republican from Miller County was first elected to represent the 9th District in 2009, but was shifted into the redrawn 3rd District after #Missouri lost a House seat following the 2010 Census.

It looks like one of #agriculture's big New Year's Resolutions for 2023 won't be fulfilled as there's still work to be done by Congress on the next #FarmBill. Still, several in the industry, including former FSA Administrator Richard Fordyce, are expressing confidence that a new measure will be written in early 2024.
