Thanks to Labri (and a horse trader lying through his teeth, but that's another story), Vorbasse survived the rush to the city in the 20th century. He invented the silly notion of Vorbasse Krigshavn -- a Navy base in the hamlet furthest from the ocean in all of Denmark. The naval harbour (read: duck pond) is a tourist destination of some repute now, with annual celebrations of the destroyer named for the professor (MS Labri is about three metres long and made from plywood).

He's long dead, of course, and I doubt that many of his tall tales were preserved. Essentially, he was a 19th-century comedian who toured Denmark. His most famous lines have become common sayings ("frikadellens flugt over plankeværket", anyone?).

Evald Tang Kristensen and other 19th-century collectors of folktales and old traditions that were rapidly disappearing. Without them, I would not have developed the interest in re-telling these stories. And I'd certainly not have had the source material to work from.

It's great if you want to write this century's version of Young Werther. Otherwise, it's idiotic.

I suppose it can be justified in a meaning of, you have to choose between what you want to make and what your need to pay rent forces you to make. But I'm sure we'd all prefer to follow our own paths.
