One of a number of GLC events for Londoners that made use of the GLC’s South Bank location, Thamesday was family-focused and featured aerobatic displays, barge racing, fireworks, exhibitions on the work of the Council, and the Capital Radio Cruiser!

Municipal guide of the day: the former Metropolitan Borough of Finsbury. This one dates from c.1935. I was intrigued by the Baker Street flats - a bit of extra-territorial expansion into St Marylebone? No - those familiar with the area will recognise it as Finsbury’s Lloyd Baker Street!

In 1984, the Thatcher Government removed London Transport from the GLC’s control while reconstituting it as London Regional Transport and placing it under the direct control of central government.
