They equated their "reclamation" of the word (to be clear, this person self-identifies as cishetero) to the use of b***h or c**t in a derogatory manner. I ended the exchange by reiterating the harm that was caused, and reminding them it wasn't up to them to decide that my reaction was inappropriate. I've been close with this person my entire life. I don't know that I've completely internalized the ramifications of choosing to cut them off. I think I may be in shock. 3/3

They decided to double down on their actions this evening, because they had used the word under its original meaning, and not as a slur. There has been ongoing turmoil between the two of us since they made a decision to put myself and my young child in danger by attempting to hide drinking whiskey behind the wheel on the highway last summer. They haven't once attempted to make amends or even admit that it was poor choice (to put things mildly.) A few weeks ago, I ended up at a gathering with them. 1/x

A post was brought to my attention today of nonbinary folk stateside whose IDs are scanning invalid if there is an "X" gender marker. I'm not in the US, so theoretically, it wouldn't be likely that I'm having the same issues as my siblings to the south. But I'm in Alberta, and our gov't tends to do whatever the hell it wants, because 'fk ottawa' or whatever. And our lobbyist, I mean Premier, is too busy trying to play into 47s favour, for me to trust that my stuff isn't working cuz of the 'X'.

Last year, when I renewed my ID, I was super excited to change my gender marker to 'X' because it was *finally* an option. I tried to change my name this week. Showed them my ID. I wasn't able to process the paperwork that day for reasons, so I went home to chill out. Ordered some wine. When the delivery driver scanned my ID, it said it was invalid and immediately cancelled my order. The registry claimed there was no way I would know if it was invalid since "no one scans outside of the registry"
