This week I heard the term “controlled opposition” and I can’t get it out of my head. It’s the perfect term for politics when two political parties fight over the most ridiculous things while there’s so much needed government assistance out there.

Here’s my two recent ones:

One was using Microsoft CRM. It was a giant notepad that was concatenated into a big invoice with the hour by hour breakdown of what developers did. Clients were billed with this.

Second one was using a classic timesheet, except a person had to approve your hours. This person had nothing to do with your projects or development in general. And this person was tough to get approvals from sometimes.

Both times actual development time felt less than 50% of the time.

If you work with software development, how do you report the hours you spent working to your workplace or clients?Do you have to fill in...

I’m reading a book about Puerto Rican history and came across a New York Times article from 1898 where Congress pretty much celebrated former Confederate generals as heroes from the Spanish-American war to the point they sang Dixie to celebrate in Congress.

That sounds so crazy to me from my outsider’s perspective. The old wounds from the US civil war were suddenly all fine after a healthy dose of imperialism. #PuertoRico #USHistory

But the people involved in this construction felt like they needed to add this security to “avoid” damaging the property that’s already condemned. It’s a tactic to use the “both sides used violence” argument in the media.

No matter how you protest you will always be labeled as violent. This system hates change.

So don’t ever tone police protests. Let people protest how they want. In the end, there’s no greater violence than living under these racist and classist systems. 2/2

Just as I was about to post why the emphasis on peaceful protests stress me out, I learn protesters in #PuertoRico were shot by security guards yesterday.

The protests are beyond peaceful: a court already validated the reason why they were protesting. They are merely forcing the government to follow the law. In this case, destroy a private property built on public land. But the government has been dragging their feet as they usually do. 1/
