@megalodon @moshidon Would either of you consider adding an option for client side language detection and translation using ML Kit? Libretranslate's detection seems to have a lot of false positive and sometimes provides difficult to understand translations, and DeepL seems to be cost prohibitive for a lot of servers.

This article from the always smart @mmasnick has me thinking about how funny it is that, after a year of crypto bros spewing endless nonsense about web3 and decentralization, 2022 ended with a legit decentralized social network going mainstream in just 6 weeks while crypto collapsed. I guess decentralization doesn't require turning the internet into a blockchain casino! Who would've thought?

A lot of people seem to have a really hard time with the whole server thing on Mastodon. We've all been coping with email for decades....

A lot of people seem to have a really hard time with the whole server thing on Mastodon. We've all been coping with email for decades. When people want to make an email, no one is freaked out that they have to choose a provider. No one thinks that if they sign up for Gmail, they won't be able to talk to their friends who signed up for Yahoo. But the email analogy doesn't seem intuitive to a lot of people.

What's the disconnect? How could we smooth that friction?
