I came across this Hoary bat today, at the end of my hike. It was flipped on its back, shivering on the cold & wet pavement.
I carefully flipped it over as it hissed at me like a cat and bared its cute little fangies.
Then it took a few steps and flew off like a little air force hedgehog.

Have any users tried this? It's called Swiss File Knife, and is a utility available via Sourceforge.
It contains 100 command line utilities of various types.
It downloads to Linux as a single binary and is pretty easy to run and use so far.
Kind of fascinating, too, that it's cross-platform...
I haven't used it much but I'm wondering if it might be simpler than some similar Linux utilities.

Every once in a while I think "I should learn all the esoterica of Bash scripting in the same way I walked the fascinatingly detailed path of the Windows Batch File, as a kid!"

Then, I push a bit further down the Bash route, and the comparison is EXACTLY like those threads where someone asks "what's another Linux game like 'Torchlight'" and the top suggestion is...Nethack...

(Not bashing Nethack!)

I really love scripting langs like ABS-lang.org and the like, but also, Bash is just a thing that's all over the place...so it's good to be fluent...

So, mobile devices now have: Crash detection, disaster alerts, satellite SOS, quick emergency dial. Now, we see AI & image detection, too. This makes me wonder:

How many years until your device will be able to end a physical altercation, or defend you in a physical attack?

Against animal, human, ...bot? ...drone?

What will the mechanism(s) be? Cave brain says "typical physical weaponry" of course, but what else, or what creative combination might do it?

Or, will the device decide what the mechanism of defense will be, based on its physical orientation to the activities at hand, and the type of confrontation it can sense?

What would a false-positive look like??

Consider, also: It has been decades since we saw a meaningful disruption in self-defense tech.

So, there has been a massive regression from the mean, in math terms.

What will it look like when that rubber band metaphorically snaps back into place?

Would you pay extra for a device for a family member, that could meaningfully improve their chances of surviving a dangerous situation? (Or would you wait until it's standard?)

Hmm?

Reading Wikipedia lately...

Have you ever noticed how some Wikipedia articles seem to be in a hurry to label certain topics as 'pseudoscience'?

Like they're trying to give you a heads up, just in case you were thinking of taking things too seriously.

Sometimes, I just want to learn about a topic without being told what to think about its scientific appeal. I might be curious about the history of a particular idea, or how it's perceived by different cultures.

Or maybe just "where did the name come from?"

I don't necessarily need a verdict on its legitimacy.

It's almost as if Wikipedia is trying to prove its own scientific rigor by being the first to call out pseudoscience?

And speaking of that...

Isn't Wikipedia a form of pseudoscience?

I've been thinking about AI as inward-turning driver for social system turbulence: The accidental yin to the traditional social media yang?

The exposure of the threat of not-knowing at a broad scale. The identification of large-scale threats to knowledge systems.

New frameworks may be needed for 1) knowledge systems integrity, 2) nuanced application of social effect (intentional design of social effect), and 3) personal monitoring of social integration value.

Outcomes: We continue using social-style interaction and thinking, but we use it more privately than ever before (i.e. we may have a "me+bots"-only personal social network with specific goals).

We create networks with other humans more easily, and with greater effect of both filtering and outcome.

We derive satisfaction from rest and play more easily.

Question: Will we look back at the first quarter of the 20th century and wonder why we exposed ourselves to so much social trauma?

Things I would happily accept the HARDEST captcha in the world for:
1/1) "You haven't sent this ACQUAINTANCE in your DMs anything for YEARS now. So...would you still like to send them this random photo of a (HOME GYM from your phone's Downloads folder)?
...Or was that an accidental thing that happened while fumbling your phone?"
This time it happened with a friend who was understanding.
But what if that had been left on read and I didn't notice for a few months...sigh, little pains.

(Why is it still so easy to send random stuff to random people via DM?)

Will we be able to try hyper-personal social media networks soon?
How they might work:

1) You control the AI-driven experience. Choose the engine, choose the benefits. Make it like a fictional world + real headlines / stories / interaction, if you want.

2) Use the network for sharing your stuff and for storage / tagging services, or for discovery & learning, or both + more.

2a) Discovery mode looks like bots with individualized personalities tailored to your preferences, finding and presenting information you value. Sharing headlines, tips, philosophy, memes, whatever, with you.

2b) You can tell bots to research, question each other, & share information. Get threads going on your favorite topics.

3) You decide if your posts or any contents are federated / shared outside.

4) Use AI as a filter where it makes sense, if traditional filters from other platforms are too rigid.

5) Finally, no one else even needs to see any of this, except you.

So, yes, this is just a vague concept.
I admit I'm a concept person. My personality tests always come out "conceptualizer".
To me, strong ideas come completely packaged, but only in the big-picture sense. Very heavy stuff, very affecting to me. But vague.
So of course I have direct access to this annoyingly-hard-to-communicate idea of Raku being a really awesome experience for all kinds of people, when leveraging more of that thematic idea of expression.
But there it is, and I like the sound of it, and whether I, we, or they "DO" something about it...or not, that's different.
Ideas and such are fun just to have, sometimes. Even the vague ones!

And, what does this imply for , perhaps, synthesizing with the personality dichotomies a bit?
I think there's a gold mine here for more integrative use of the term "expressive".
And I mean, and Raku basically own this term, in coding.
But, they own it in the linguistics dimension.
Wouldn't it also be very diffuse, and interesting, to build inroads to other forms of expression?
For example, the expression via outcome that I mentioned, in which the language can be comfortably demoted, because actually the community outcome at a given event was great, or the programming outcome from a given community resource (modules, etc) was great.
There's much more here and I admit that I don't know this outcome.
But I get excited thinking about it.
My intuition tells me that Raku has a LOT more "potential energy" waiting in little, hesitant, quiet caches of interest out there.
It would be SO cool then, to build on a natural strength in "expression" to draw it out.
