Playing through 13 Sentinels for the first time. I've been enjoying it so far (roughly 50% of the way through), but I'm starting to wonder if its story is going to buckle under the cumulative weight of all its plot elements. Every time I think I'm beginning to grasp the shape of the narrative, it adds yet more onto its tottering tower of plot. Without spoiling me on anything, does it end up sticking the landing, or does it completely fall apart?

On a more general note, I really miss the immediate legibility of the sprite-work in 2D Fire Emblem games. I find the 3D units and battlefields in modern Fire Emblem games a lot harder to parse from an overhead perspective without digging into unit descriptions and terrain details (a problem that is further exacerbated by the small screen size when playing in handheld mode on Switch).

Played a bit of Fire Emblem Engage last weekend. l think I've been spoiled on the notion of hanging out in a base with your pals between missions from Midnight Suns' excellent execution on that concept. Engage's writing, tone, and art direction also aren't really my cup of tea. I'm happy they brought back the weapon's triangle for what it's worth.

The more I play of #midnightsuns, the more I miss #xcom2. I'm enjoying hanging out at the abbey with the Suns, but the more limited scope of the missions paired with the card mechanics definitely isn't scratching the same itch. XCOM 2's sprawling mission areas, the deliberate act of creeping forward, taking cover, setting up overwatch cones, discovering enemy pods, trading fire and repositioning; it all combines to create such a satisfying rhythm. Might have to try Daemonhunters to get my fix.

The reveal trailer for the recently announced survival horror game Sorry We're Closed goes so hard. Survival horror by way of Persona is a hell of an elevator pitch. I love stories that center the transformation of everyday spaces into uncanny and grotesque ones and allow the protagonist to exist in that uncomfortable liminal space. This seems right up my alley.
