For me, the hardest thing about reading (for scholarly work) is fully thinking through the ideas and reactions that emerge as I read. If I don't do it immediately (say just make marginal notes) I find it really difficult to re-engage the thought process even a few hours later. But thinking everything through in the course of reading can be incredibly slow. How do others approach this?

I'm a PhD Candidate at NYU, researching Soviet history. My focus is on the history of #medicine and #publichealth, especially disease control campaigns. My dissertation is about #malaria control in Soviet Central Asia.
More broadly, I'm interested in the historical intersections of state power, #colonialism, and transnational #science!
