VCF Midwest has been great for my son! He picked up a C64 and some cartridges, and just had fun geeking out all over the place. Had a blast watching the Stop Bits!
Me? I got sick and was in my room the entire time. Bah. Maybe next year!

A lot of work with Google Cloud, Kubernetes, etc. This isn't my department, but I work with them quite a bit, and they have some awesome people.

If anybody is looking for something in IAM (I think this is entry-level, but haven’t checked), project management, or DevOps, the place I work for is hiring. (I am not involved in hiring in any way, but I know that a lot of people have been losing their jobs recently)
Great company to work for, seems like. They do like to take their time in hiring, but they’re serious about the fully remote (I’ve been here almost 3 months and nobody has seen my face), and given recent movement I’d say that they are likely fairly motivated to hire. Smallish company, probably not the best salary in the market…but benefits are awesome and so is the culture. I dropped another company’s interview process for essentially the same job I have now, offering 15-20k more…and haven’t had a second of regret.
Something else that’s been important to me: very friendly to neurodivergent staff. I think our sales people are likely the most neurotypical people that I’ve met so far…and most of them will geek out with you on something. Seems similarly friendly to medical and disability needs (worked form the hospital last week when my wife was admitted, no hassles on needing to talk to docs or otherwise take a minute…job got done, didn’t negatively affect clients without a prior heads-up, zero issues), and while I wouldn’t say we’re the most diverse company, part of that is that I legitimately don’t know the demographics of at least half of the people that I work with.

This means I’ve done sales, marketing, budgeting, etc. It ALSO means that I’ve learned how to explain things to people who own the business that I manage (and thus control a large portion of my, and my employees, lives) but have NO IDEA how/why we do what we do, why certain things are necessary or important in language that they can understand. Apparently, this is a highly transferable skill. Who knew?

Just a reminder (and I need it to) for #twittermigration folks:
Remember to put CW tags on toots about politics, things like that. I completely get that people don't want to be exposed to some things...honestly, I wish that the birdsite had such a feature, I might not've had to take breaks as much for my mental health. It's a fairly small ask, but it's something that I find it hard to remember sometimes.

I'm an IAM Engineer (very junior, tbh) and just starting in #infosec. I've been very interested in it for a long while, however, though when I originally went to college after highschool, it wasn't an option that was offered...they advised me to go into computer engineering. I did not become a computer engineer. I like people (marginally) more than that degree track required. I did the usual thing...got married, had kids, and ended up running hotels for a couple of decades. Kids are grown, finally got an Information Systems Security degree (Wide exposure, little expertise. I'm a dang Bard.), and am starting on my "grown-up" career path. That said, you learn a lot of things in customer service, and running mid-level hotels: I understand business logic, P&L Statements and Cash Flow reports, I get forecasting, sales, and marketing. So I translate "executive" to "middle manager" as well as to "tech" pretty well, and in reverse too. I have experience with dealing with risk-averse people and with those who don't see the risks, but would be averse to them if they were made aware. I also found that I really don't like people that much after all, so now I work remotely! (I do like the people that I work with, though)
So Hello! That was a lot more long-winded than I anticipated.
