Happy birthday to me!
AKA - I bent the side-steps on the green-laning day and needed to do something about it anyway, so I might as well improve the off-road skills of the Disco :-D
GB Politics, R*form
Pretty wild watching people shouting about VE Day celebrations when last week they were celebrating the local election results of a far-right party led by a guy who was recognised as a racist/fascist by some of his school teachers.

Chances of me taking it to an apple store? Zero. Chances of me buying a cheap replacement battery from ebay/aliexpress?
Close to 1, unless anyone knows of a reputable, quality supplier to the UK of replacement 2020M1 13 inch Macbook Air batteries?
Ah, yes. As is the way, the shitty new tracking feature is opt-out instead of opt-in, because they know that hardly anybody will voluntarily send more data.
In this case, it's gitlab which is adding some event tracking to 18.0 - https://about.gitlab.com/blog/2025/03/26/more-granular-product-usage-insights-for-gitlab-self-managed-and-dedicated/
I'll give them credit for introducing an opt-out toggle in the version before it goes live, but I would think that “a strong focus on privacy” would lean towards it being opt-in…

Mainly to try and escape the mechanical keyboard rabbit hole I have fallen down because my trusty cooler master storm is starting to give up the ghost after over a decade (locks up multiple times per day, have changed USB cable, used a different (powered) USB hub and connected directly to my laptop).

Which means I can now tell it to dump out most of its charge during peak export hours.
Sunday, I paid £1.44 for electricity (including standing charge), and exported £3.13 (battery and solar combined).
I love FB Marketplace.
"Drove without fault when parked up."
"Not been driven in about 17 years. Brakes seized."
Yes, that's the same advert 😂
So far, the best thing about having an EV is the cost per mile, obviously.
The next best thing is fellow EV owners being bamboozled when they tell me that I'll love how fast the new car is, and telling them that actually, my new EV is slower than my modded polo gti was. No, not just top speed, but acceleration too. 😂
Or not, apparently the nuclear option of “leave a bad google review" has actually worked this time, and my refund from the local tradesman was back in my account this morning, almost a year after I paid the deposit.
Disappointed, but not surprised, that it took that to get him to actually refund me, unlike all the times I've been told “end of the week" or “I'll transfer it this evening” 🙄
Ah, time to decide between sending a letter before action, or just buying the cheapest shitbox MOT failure car I can find and dump it on their drive.
I have to admit, the second option would be waaaaaay more satisfying…
Typos you really don't want to make at work, exhibit A...

31.3.2025 11:20Tell me your EV charging cable arrived, without telling me... 😉The new Renault 5 was utterly lovely to drive, but just wasn’t quite the one for me.
The Cupra Born I test drove afterwards, however, is coming home with me later today in place of the little red pocket rocket.

Counteracting the fact that I'm test driving an EV this weekend by booking a green lane tour in my diesel V6 chungus SUV.

Once again, it _was_ DNS…

“Quirky”, I guess ;-)
In the middle of wobbles about replacing a car, at least I can be comforted that the cars I have been looking at are the right ones, given how popular they are.
Three times I’ve spoken to dealers about a car, three times they’ve just sold within the previous hour.
Not only am I undecided between a few “future classics”, I also have half a mind to jump ship to full battery EV, since I also have the land rover if I need to do the type of driving which doesn't suit EVs.

“Your normal place of work is $companyOffice, and your home address from time to time”
It feels like boiler-plate covering of behinds, but I am curious if it will put me, erm, I mean the remote employee at any significant disadvantage in the future, beyond having to attend the office if my performance isn't good enough?
