New blog: Move fast and break people.
This is the most personal and contemplative blog post I've written yet. Let's stop pretending that simple condemnation of social media will do anything productive.

Hi folks, a pal of mine has just opened his online store selling ttrpg STL models on cults3d. He's put in a ton of work designing these models, if you like the look of what he's created then please consider supporting him. He's even released a couple of models for free!

Bike is now safe in the hands of my LBS to do the replacement work.
Note to future me: don't wait 17 years before you service your bike's drivetrain again, you wally.

21.2.2025 14:09Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair.#biketooterIt was a sunny day today, so I used my lunch break to start a major service of my utility #bicycle
Today was all about the drivetrain:
- Removed both cranks for the first time (percussive maintenance ftw) and checked the original BB.
- Ordered a new BB
- Replaced the original chainrings from 2008
- Replaced the cassette
- Cleaned all the things
Still on the list:
- Put on a new chain
- Re-index gears
- Replace brake pads
- True the wheels
- Replace tyres

There's no easy way to contact the airline about this. No links whatsoever within the email to inform them them that I've received this in error. Replies won't be read. The online help is no use.
The full house of crappy #infosec 🙃
(Yes, I will report the data breach to them. _Somehow_)

* Survivors of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami
* The students who programmed Alexa's first voice
* The nephew of the nuclear scientist who gave away secrets to the USSR
Plus the story of Ripley's Believe It Or Not.
It's so good.

1.1.2025 00:48Happy new year everyone!Hi fedifolk. I've been doing some back of the envelope calculations about the cost of running my own homeserver/homelab. Just the cost of electricity alone would be around £9 a month (assuming 50w average), plus the cost and hassle of acquiring and maintaining the hardware.
So, I'm looking for reasons for hosting at home to mitigate the cost and maintenance. What does it provide that a hosted VPS doesn't?
[edit] Thanks all. New blog here: https://mattellery.co.uk/posts/2025/01/04/i-dont-have-a-home-server-yet-and-thats-ok/
