Read about the intercontinental exchange of cinema ideas and information in Global Movie Magazine Networks (UC Press), a new collection edited by Eric Hoyt and Kelley Conway. The essays in this collection reveal the hybridity, heterogeneity, and connectivity of movie magazines and the important role they play in the intercontinental exchange of information and ideas about cinema.

A free ebook version of this title is available online through Luminos.

Be sure to also check out the collection overview essay written by Paul Moore, Jessica Whitehead, and Louis Pelletier. It serves as a fantastic introduction to the collection and provides thorough context for each publication's history, as well as their complicated relationship to Hollywood (which always treated Canada as part of the American *domestic* market).

Here's an AI rendition of what our servers currently look like.

For the last few weeks, Lantern and the MHDL websites have been experiencing significant traffic (that's great!) which has been causing loading times to slow and often stall entirely (that's bad!) - we understand that it is frustrating and disappointing when these sites are not working like you have come to expect.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our team works to upgrade server capacity and improve reliability.

David Bordwell, the Jacques Ledoux Professor Emeritus of Film Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, died on February 29, 2024 at the age of 76 after a lengthy illness.

When Bordwell launched his career in the 1970s, film studies was just entering academia, and over the course of three decades at the UW-Madison, as well as a remarkably productive post-retirement, he helped the still-young discipline achieve new levels of respectability and intellectual rigor. He authored, coauthored, or edited some 22 books and monographs.

To an international community of filmmakers, film students, and cinephiles, David Bordwell was the most respected film scholar of his generation. But to his very wide and ever-widening circle of friends, he also was a warm, witty, unaffected companion.

He is survived by his wife, Kristin Thompson; his sisters, Diane Bordwell Verma and Darlene Bordwell; his nephew, Sanjeev Verma, and his niece, Kamini Verma.

Next up on the docket for digitization: an extensive collection of pressbooks for some *excellent* B-movies by Monogram Pictures. Though often dismissed as a "poverty row" studio, Monogram's work is an excellent snapshot of an important era of film history, and arguably of graphic design too--just LOOK at those colors!
