I've been working on an annotated disassembly of Nintendo Family BASIC, which is an implementation of BASIC for the Famicom. It came with a keyboard, which had audio jacks to connect to a cassette tape recorder for loads/saves, and could also save one program to battery-backed RAM.

It features a background thread to handle (baked in) sprite animations, so even though it's BASIC, some animation tasks can run fairly fast, even while other BASIC code runs!

I went to see Richard Dawkins speak last night in Portland. He played a huge role in helping me fix a broken understanding of science, having been a Young-Earth Creationist for 28 years. I sprang for the VIP package. But the event was a shit-show, and devolved into raving, and deeply ignorant, transphobic nonsense. I abandoned any interest in handshakes or signatures, and left early. He will always have my gratitude for what his words have wrought in my life, but also my eternal disgust.

That moment when you learn that Hulu created a spinoff series for Oliver! the musical (or possibly just the Dickens book), in which Fagin's top pick-pocketer, The Artful Dodger, series protagonist, is now a leading surgeon owing to his nimble fingers (of course), but is enticed back to his boyhood life of crime for "one last heist" by the reappearance of Fagin.

I would just laugh it off, but then I saw Tim Minchin in the cast, so now I actually have to watch it.
