Turns out the bird app doesn’t understand such a concept because I still have the checkmark and all Blue features, but for free. Incredible. Pay $8 my ass. Not that I have any use for it.

Okay this was shockingly simple to do with Zigbee2MQTT in Home Assistant. Recognized the hub dongle without extra setup and was able to add devices using their built-in pairing buttons. Have the two basic temp/humidity sensors working out of the box.
