I currently lead part of the Amazon Luna game streaming team (we build the core streaming tech underlying the service). My career interest is building distributed systems, tools, and libraries at scale. I’m a programming language nerd – I’m currently primarily using C++, C#, and Rust, with a sentimental and strong preference for Eiffel.

My original engineering background was in telecom. In the past, I’ve promoted punk rock concerts, was a DJ for a while, I’ve authored or co-authored 10 programming books, and was a VP at a largish consulting company. I was also a Microsoft MVP for several years when they apparently relaxed their standards.

I cure my own bacon, ferment as much as possible, and usually have a weekend food project. I am (somewhat uncomfortably) at least three characters in The Menu.

My wife and I have ducks, geese (numbers subject to change due to coyotes), 3 feral cats, and a deaf and one-eyed chihuahua, who really runs the place.
