In my limited poking around these pages are still down:
https://asm.org/IDEAA/Resources/Black-Microbiologists
https://asm.org/IDEAA/Resources/Asian-American-and-Pacific-Islanders
https://asm.org/IDEAA/Resources/Women-Microbiologists
>etc for all the IDEAA resources pages. however they are accessible from the internet archive. And perhaps reassuringly the many of articles they link to are up except:
https://asm.org/Articles/2024/September/Advancing-Lab-Equity-in-Latin-America
https://asm.org/Articles/2024/August/Leading-the-Change-Highlights-from-the-ToL-Scholar
It would be great to have an independent mirror to the articles and resources that these pages used to index
4.2.2025 17:07In my limited poking around these pages are still down:...Meanwhile this link on the wayback machine yields a list of 148 results of articles that were previously categorized as DEI content. I'm hoping every article on the list is still up but I can't see the URLs for more then the first 12
https://web.archive.org/web/20241205162923/https://asm.org/Browse-By-Topic/Diversity-Inclusion
It seems like the current strategy is to bury the pages without a official index. While this means the external links to these pages will (if everything is put back up) remain intact the lack of an official index creates discovery barriers

As reported in:
https://www.statnews.com/2025/02/03/trump-executive-order-american-society-for-microbiology-removes-dei-content/
The article on Chelsey Spriggs is back (as are links to the ABRCMS website as the article says) but the one on Juneteenth is still down.
The article gives official comment that ASM is trying to figure out how to put everything that is taken down back up, but they are unable to provide any clear action items.

We want to hear your reactions and #suggestions over the fediverse or by email (microjc@biotechwithoutborders.org). As always you can add papers directly for us to consider using #Zotero (link in bio) or just follow along there with what we're reading. We're no longer keeping up with Twitter/X nor are we intersted in exploring other social media platforms (ie bsky, IG, Threads), but we are getting interested in #PeerTube and #Twitch.

We've been doing the same thing for some time with no planned end and the break let us close one chapter to start another. We're ready to experiment with our format to create something that folks can tune into selectively to expand their knowledge and share their enthusiasm and/or curiosity. We're still thinking about this as our fun side project that helps us keep up to date the literature and hope others will want to join in.

When we started our livestream show in depths of the #covid lockdowns we didn't consider that one day our Sundays might be available to enjoy the company of friends and family in meatspace, or that we would be able to frolic in the urban landscapes of #London #NYC. We started with a need to know more about SARS-CoV-2, a desire to reboot an old #scicomm channel we enjoyed during grad school, and a mutual love and enthusiasm for microbiology.

So consider this a sort of re-#introduction (timed with scicomm.xyz's #upgrade to 4.2.1!) to our #microbiology journal club. We haven't agreed on a final format yet, but we do agree that: we want to keep doing a #livestream, focus on producing more #graphics, have both a deep dive and a news overview, add a more general #review, produce in smaller batches that have a #theme tying shows together, and explore new #platforms.

I haven't posted about the #journal #articles I've been #reading and honestly I've been reading less since our break. I hope at least our boosts are helpful in connecting you to cool #microbiology on the #fediverse. We got together last week to check-in and see what we wanted to do about #microbiojc. To our mutual delight we're still both interested in keeping it going, but we want to change up the format giving us something new to explore

We hope to be back in the autumn with changes!
I'll still be surfing fedi from this account, boosting stuff, and hopefully writing some paper summaries (I'll post those to oneabstractaday[@]gup.pe)
As always: toot us paper suggestions (or just say hi), check out our zotero, and watch some old episodes if you want.

Omnitrophota are studied via previously generated data. 346 metagenome-assembled genomes show reduced #genome size yet complete #metabolism, with signatures of predatory/parasitic behaviour. 75 single-amplified genomes and MAGs from serially filtered cells suggest most are nano #bacteria (~0.2um). Quantitative stable-isotope probing profiles suggest some families are #predators.
