20.1.2025 05:59It's unclear to me if AMD Epycs have the same restriction. Would love to have a 32core Genoa and access 600GB/s of bandwidth. At the consumer level, the 1CCD AMD 9700X has way less memory bandwidth than the 2CCD 9950X due to the infinity fabric linking the IO-die being the bottleneck once again. So if you are looking to take advantage of 6000MT/s or higher, you'll need a 2CCD processor.

Getting an 8 channel motherboard doesn't automatically get you 460GB/s. https://www.reddit.com/r/threadripper/comments/1azmkvg/comparing_threadripper_7000_memory_bandwidth_for/

M1 Max doesn't actually have 400GB/s going to the CPU alone. CPU gets about 243GB/s only while the rest can only be accessed via the GPU. https://www.anandtech.com/show/17024/apple-m1-max-performance-review/2

OLED's infinite contrast is pointless if the screen reflects ambient light.
I've also seen identical specced glossy panels look vastly different in sunlight depending on how well the anti-reflective coating is.

OLED's infinite...Some fun back-of-the-napkin math: So a high end PC today has a memory bandwidth of 60GB/s, that means for a game engine running 4 threads at 240fps, each thread only can access a max of 62MB of data from system memory per frame. This is why high fps gaming is so hard on the CPU/Memory subsystem, and why AMD's 96MB of L3 cache really helps boost gaming performance.

31.5.2024 00:13Some impressive work being done on improving #b3d Cycles sampling using ReSTIR: https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/pulls/121023PSA: #Blender Cycles supports single-channel texture. This means an 8bit greyscale texture for roughness or metalness will use 1/3rd the memory when you properly export it as 8bit instead of 24bit.
BUT! This memory savings does not work when the texture is packed. Packed textures will always take up the full 24bit.
