How dare I! The arrogance!
It seems I still haven't shrank myself small enough for the ever so mighty men of gaming. Maybe I should bring a kettle and make them all hot tea to drink while gossiping. I wonder if my existence would stop being an existential threat these people then? 😇

A very creepy one that ended up being both way creepier and way more positive than I imagined based on the content warnings (rape and violence against women) at the start of the story. Definitely recommend for anybody who has 2,000 words worth of bandwidth for a fantastical and creepy little story.

However, I read so many books in April and I have so much to do this weekend, that I have no idea how I'm going to fit in writing it all out.
Being busy because I have some work to do is a good thing in terms of my finances, but it's still not exactly how I intended my 4-day weekend to go 🤣

Really great way to end what was otherwise a pretty good day 👍

Society really has to do better.
I shouldn't have to smile and nod and accept listening to incredibly sexist conversation and comments between male coworkers for sometimes over an hour at a time as just part of the job. And that's not even getting into the fact that they randomly decide to pretend I don't exist pretty regularly, don't let me join conversations, and refuse flat out to ask me for asisstance with anything because they assume I couldn't possibly know (even though I almost always know or can find out quickly). So I never know when I'm actually allowed to exist and participate.
Absolutely exhausting, friends.

This thinking is inspired by many short essays (some lost to time because I didn't bookmark the URLs) and an assignment I had to do in a translation course I took a few years ago. It's also pretty closely related to BrE and AmE supremacy in writing spaces---a big topic honestly.
A bit nervous about actually writing it though because I'm not confident in my ability to be concise and write about it clearly. I also think many translators who are native speakers who only translate into their native language may yell at me (it's happened before).
It feels important to put out there though, so I'm kind of conflicted even though my personal blog realistically speaking has no reach or real audience. If I had any kind of name for myself, I guess I could pitch it somewhere, but I don't even know if I can write out my ideas well enough for my own quiet blog so lol

Hurray for properly participating in democracy even though I have to pay the living overseas tax of $30 to send my ballot in the mail via EMS!
Looks like the race in the riding I have to vote in is pretty close though, so who knows if it's going to swing the way I want it to 😅

I've already gotten three in addition to my monthly credit and I may buy more 😆
*I think the name varies, but this is the name for the Canadian version, organized by the Canadian Independent Booksellers Association. They even have a website to help people fine indie booksellers!!!

Maybe this will motivate me to watch more movies? Or at least thing about the very small number of movies I watch more critically???

I really want to learn how to be more articulate in Japanese when I talk about these topics. So while I think a lot of the basic stuff isn't going to be new information, I'm really looking forward to what I can learn from this book. And hopefully I can use that knowledge in positive ways that help people even if it's just dealing with misconception--something I'm definitely less equipped to do in Japanese.

I really loved this collection a lot, so it would mean so much to me if you checked out my review.

It's supposed to arrive on Tuesday, but the way my address got input is completely unhinged and I'm definitely too short on time to miss getting the envelope until the weekend, so I scheduled it to be delivered to one of the public boxes instead. Super grateful they exist.
Now to figure out the fastest way to get the envelope back to Ottawa in time for it to be counted and remember the name of my electoral district and look up the name of the person I need to vote for 😵💫

Books on gender in general would probably be useful too. Brought to you by the fact that instead of being extremely excited that my favourite story is getting adapted into a different medium, I'm spending my time avoiding posts on the internet that pretty heavily imply that people like me don't exist.
Might as well use the misery it's causing as fuel to learn something 😇

They *really* look like spam. I would never open one of those emails unless I was expecting it to come. I know this because the last time I got one unexpectedly I ignored it and it's why I had to completely register from scratch for the election this time 😅

I have to do a test for a potential new client first though, so might not end up being until tomorrow.
It's possible that my hands may hurt to much after completing the test since it's absurdly long though, so I might have to reevaluate my plans.

It's hard enough reading social cues on a regular day, let alone one where people do the most annoying shit imaginable and claim humour has an excuse for all transgressions. And that's not even getting into the "jokes" that cause actual harm.
