Finally finished getting the data I wanted from my Spotify account so I cancelled my subscription and deleted my account! Also saw some annoying news about Pinterest, which I hadn't used in basically 10 years anyway, so deleted that account while I was at it!
The clearing of this digital baggage continues to be emotionally fulfilling.

It's my understanding that this is basically impossible to watch in the US right now despite its Oscar win, but it *is* available in select theaters in Japan right. I would imagine coverage outside of Tokyo and surrounding areas is probably pretty patchy though.
Not much to say that hasn't already been said by people who can say it more eloquently and knowledgably than I can, but I highly recommend going to see this documentary if you can.

Was given a final reminder by logging on and seeing somebody else's reading log for the month!! So here it is, dictated to my phone and edited by my sore fingers. I'm starting to get the hang of this speech to text thing though, so it didn't actually take as long to do as I thought it would.
That's always something to be happy about!

I also bought a microSD for my phone and put said music library on it and now have all of my music on my phone.
This is great! I can finally say goodbye to Spotify! It's a shame that there are artists who only make their music or certain music available on streaming platforms that I won't be able to listen to anymore, but it's definitely going to be worth it.

It's not just Japanese artists either. Definitely a great option for Japan-based friends.
I like physical media in practice, but I just don't have the space for it. Really glad I was able to find this!!!

Laughing nervously while watching all these people switch from Kindle to Kobo because apparently it's better, but I spent 2 hours yesterday trying to set up a way to actually own my Kobo books only to learn that it's actually impossible for me to use any of those methods because I can't download any of my books???
And yes, I really mean I can't download them. ADE doesn't recognize them, Kobo Desktop doesn't work to download them anywhere that I can find them in the file explorer, there's no download option for me on the website (even though it exists for somebody I know), Calibre can see the files I have downloaded on my ereader but obviously can't do anything with them (which is interesting since I went through all this effort and followed the instructions to use the additional plugins properly--could still be a user error but...).
Everything is great.

Looks like most of the books are pretty short too, so maybe I can try to read everything this year!

At least I can count these purchases as souvenirs and not mere stress purchases. And quite a few of them I've been thinking about buying for quite a while and had just been holding back, so I think I can count this as mostly mindful consumerism 😆
I also got one novel that was a complete impulse purchase, but it kind of ruined the vibe of the picture so I didn't include it lol

I should have it sometime next week, which means I can finally move ahead with some complicated procedures I need to get done.
This is such good news!!! 🎉

At least it feels like I finally made some progress with my rheumatologist for the first time in a while this week.

I got a regular dictionary and a character dictionary, and while I think the character dictionary is very cool (it was kind of a stress purchase), I think I'll probably get a lot more use out of the standard dictionary. I'm particularly happy about the fact that I can access both on my phone through the included app codes, but it's also nice that if they decide to kill the app, I'll still have the actual dictionaries too.
These are both the standard versions from the publisher meant for high schoolers and above, but they also have a series from different editors that's more directed at middle schoolers. I'm sure they're all fine dictionaries, but these versions have more words, so I thought they'd be better for my translator purposes.

Which means that I'm finally booked for an ultrasound of the joints in my hands to double check that it's in fact my tendons and not minuscule joint inflammation that wouldn't show up on blood tests or in a physical exam.
Really sucks that it took this long to communicate how much this has been bothering me, but at least I can finally feel a bit of emotional relief that I've finally been heard. Unfortunately, this same appointment also established that my body has decided that I don't need white blood cells or platelets anymore, which is far from ideal 😅

It seems that the plan for this story wasn't for it to be anything more than a few one shots, so it's not incredibly cohesive or anything--it's more like a compilation of interconnected short stories. In any case, it was the easy comfortable reading that I was anticipating when I bought it, so that's a win.
Would definitely be a great manga for anyone who's into books to read. Real books are referenced throughout and there's a list of the books mentioned and their publication date at the back of the volume. I was interested to discover that there's a manga adaptation of an incredibly wild Japanese novel I read late last year. Looks like there will be another volume published in a few months too, so that's something to look forward to!

Reign of the Talons is the last book in a trilogy, so if my review makes it sound awesome, definitely check out Last of the Talons first.
All three books have been wonderfully raw and tender and I really cannot recommend them enough.

The artwork is stunning, the storytelling is stunning, the translation is stunning, all of it is stunning. This series deserves every award it has ever gotten and all of the awards that it hasn't. Just the best.

It's really about time that I get on this since I still have power to vote in federal elections Even if I haven't lived in the country for nearly 10 years. I'm aware of loads of smaller publications that are US-based, but none that are Canadian.
Edit: Should add just in case that I'm not particularly interested in reading news by and for Nazis. Just to be clear for anyone who thinks that's something I want to waste my life force doing.
Edit 2: It has been brought to my attention that I need to explicitly state that I don't need to be recommended the CBC. Probably safe to assume if it's an internationally recognized source, I'm likely already familiar with it. I'm looking for indie level stuff.

This one is a short stort collection by You Ashizawa. It's an SF collection, but it's my understanding that the author largely writes mysteries or mystery adjacent work.
I'll admit I was drawn to this book because of the compelling title and the, ahem, interesting choice of cover design. This is the first of anything I've read from the author, so it's all I really have to go on. And I was not disappointed.
This collection was filled with such a variety of different stories taking place of different periods of time, both in our world and ones that are parallel to ours. I could feel the origins of the author in mystery writing and it made all of the stories a lot of fun. Really hope to see more SF works in the future!
