Having failed to resolve the Brexit deadlock in 2017, the new Parliament was an opportunity to showcase how traditional priorities of devolution, deregulation & enterprise would kick-start the economy. Yet the experiment failed and the opportunity was wasted. Have we now learned that economic dogma should never trump sound governance? Sadly, I doubt it.

We had some great conversations across a range of Departments in the library - looking at the huge challenges of knowledge management at scale.

Systems right now are in chaos, particularly in Government, and as always a generation of people are emerging who thrive on chaos and use it to advance their own interests. Eventually, though, the chaos will recede and we'll rediscover governance, statecraft, democracy and debate. At which point the empires built on chaos tend to crumble in the cold light of scrutiny and honesty.
