Which is your favorite app to keep up with #Mastodon? I am torn between Tusky and the official app.
I just love watching the moon with binoculars or a telescope and seeing the crater outlines revealed by shadow and light on its surface. Reminds me of how we're on a physical planet that is traveling at insane speeds through the void and there is an actual orbiting body just right there.
Now that I think about it, most of my non-fiction books are either about earth or space. If I wasn't a geographer, I guess I would be an astronomer.

For a Netflix flick, surprisingly sombre and slow burn, I liked it, mostly. Good casting, beautiful shots, but some special effects took me out of it and it lacked memorable scenes despite the source material. I would've liked if the movie had explored the insanity of the leadership more, and not only at the very end. The last 10 minutes are by far the most memorable. Whoever played Ferdinand Foch was absolutely stellar for the 5 minutes of screen time.

I am getting more confident that #twittermigration isn't just a momentary knee-jerk reaction, but something more substantive. I am increasingly curious how all this plays out! EDIT: fixed typo

Are #mastodon and #pixelfed separate networks or can I follow folks across them?

It can give you the extra confirmation that "yes, your analysis idea could work" or, better yet, a great idea for an analysis. There is not a single published article I am involved in that has not benefited from me scouring the docs.
However, some libraries. Some are like deciphering dark incantations with only few hints in some obscure forgotten language.

Sometimes, like today, I upload it to Mastodon.
There are three languages, so got the linguistic diversity base covered as well.
I like the connotation also: Everything begun somewhere 🌍🧐
P.s. This is actually from Tuesday. Don't tell anyone.

Apparently the DB server of mastodon.social received a beefy hardware update and it's immediately apparent. All accounts load instantly, searches work fast and posting this did not cause any timeouts.
Let's go!

I am curious how #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol differ from each other. ActivityPub is what powers #Mastodon AFAIK.
Both are federated.
Both allow transfer of user accounts between servers.
ActivityPub does not have content algorithms. (?)
ATProtocol apparently has content algorithms the user can choose from.
Are both based on ActivityStreams 2.0 format?
Is ATProto open-source?
Anyone care to enlighten me?

I am excited, because the philosophy behind the tech speaks to me and I would love to have Mastodon as a viable platform for finding and publishing interesting research across disciplinary boundaries.
I hope it lasts, because there is much potential here.

Is the 2-3 h delay of posts and any actions I am experiencing caused by me being on one of the megapopular instances (mastodon.social)? Would I get a more responsive UX if I migrated my account to an instance with less folks hogging the server resources?
Not a fan of getting "timeout error" when trying to follow someone or searching for a user. Nor the "3 hours later feed". Or posting this. WTH. Five times already.
