𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – performative lecture by Crawler

Storytelling is a tool for making sense of troubling times. This may explain the rise in popularity of divination systems like astrology and tarot in recent years. The origin of the ecological crisis is disputed, but the schism between science and magic is one node that can be easily traced. The dominator systems of empire, capitalism, organized religion, and patriarchy have erased the symbiosis of these paradigms, to the detriment of knowledge. We see cartomancy not as a form of determinism but as a system of sense-making and pattern-finding.

In this performance lecture, we defy the separation of these practices by exploring the role of narrative construction through the random arrangement of ecological archetypes informed by the tradition of tarot. Crawlers member Lyndsey Walsh will present ongoing research on Ecological Divination and explore what meaning we may be able to collectively generate by consulting ecomancy knowledge through the oikos, the aether, and the archive.

AICON: Collective Icon-Making in the Algorithmic Age; workshop by Tommaso Cappelletti & Jumoke Fernandez; panke.gallery, Sunday, 26 October 2025

Participants explored the hidden power of icons, symbols, and metaphors that shape our collective imagination of AI. Drawing on AICON's evolving archive of AI iconography, sparkles, wands, and glowing orbs that serve as enchanted symbols of complex systems, we examined how these metaphors influence cultural imaginaries while obscuring the material realities of technology.

✦ How Do We Picture Artificial Intelligence? ✦

Through drawing exercises and metaphor exploration, participants imagined new speculative icons that question how design encodes ideology, labor, and belief into everyday interfaces. The workshop brought together artists, designers, and researchers to engage critically and creatively with the aesthetics of the algorithmic age, reimagining what a more transparent, responsible, and poetic visual language of AI might look like.
