Revision 2025 is over, and there were some truly mind-blowing productions… One that really captivated me was Epitaph for the Living by Andromeda Software Development. It’s the kind of demo that probably won’t appeal to most people, but I keep coming back to it, completely fascinated. Darkness, gloom, and a sense of dread seep through the visuals to a point where the atmosphere becomes almost suffocating… It gives me bigger chills than リング (Ringu).

Today, a little retrospection. Back in the '90s, I had no idea this track: demozoo.org/music/29010/

Was actually a cover, and the original was composed by Jochen Hippel: demozoo.org/music/162896/

Today, I came across this remix by Moonshine Fox: remix64.com/track/moonshine-fo

Turns out Mr. Jogeir also made another remix: remix64.com/track/jogeir-lilje

I wonder how many in the '90s knew Jochen Hippel composed the original?

So that's all for today! :D But the queue of 'little projects' is not empty... so soon (I hope!) there will be another little diary-style entry. :)

Unfortunately, more primitive but cheaper solutions prevailed. The system didn’t gain as much popularity as other turbo systems that appeared on the market a little later. The designers of this interface and its software can undoubtedly be called the pioneers of their time!

It's one of the most powerful interfaces for Atari 8-bit computers from the late '80s that I have seen. The design is interesting and well-thought-out, and it works great. The new data format, without IRG gaps, allowed for even greater efficiency. It was a comprehensive and complete solution!

I was wondering why the designer of this interface used such an extensive band-pass filter. I got my answer when I saw the signal spectrum during transmission at 2600 bps - it is so rich in harmonics that the use of a filter became a necessity.

This is a two-stage, 2nd-order low-pass filter (fc ≈ 6680 Hz) and high-pass filter (fc ≈ 2950 Hz), which together form a 4th-order band-pass filter with a frequency range from 2950 Hz to 6680 Hz. To verify the calculations against reality, I measured the filter characteristics; here they are:
