Life hack for autistic (or generally socially awkward) people!

You know where someone asks how you're doing, or "what's up?" and your brain randomly locks up as you try to understand and express your entire state of existence within 1 second?

Sure you could say "good" but what if you actually aren't? You have to get past feeling like you're lying, and also figure out how a neurotypical good person acts, and then try to mimic that. What a pain.

So instead of all that, here's the trick that applies to nearly every situation. Just tell them what day it is.

"What's up?"

"It's Monday," or "It's Friday."

These are somehow valid responses. Better yet, for some reason, neurotypicals love this. And it requires no social processing.

Advanced version: Pitch your voice low and monotone for Monday, and with each day after, pitch it slightly higher and slightly louder, up to Friday being highest and loudest while still at a comfortable speaking range. This variation usually produces even more positive reactions.

Note: I didn't come up with this. I can't recall where I heard it. I just wanted to share because I really do find it useful and use it semi-frequently.

I hung some pictures this morning and then realized that I'd instinctively hung them lower than is comfortable to view. Why? I'm really tall and it makes sense to adjust picture heights for the average person.

This sounds enlightened except I'm the only one living here, and very rarely have visitors. So I'm just giving myself neck cramps in the name of a hypothetical, imaginary short person.

I'm kind of an idiot. XD

So why don't they just not do that in the Jeffries tubes? It would make traversing them way faster without having to crawl or climb 10 stories worth of ladders.

I had someone come over briefly. They come here and my entire place is insanely organized.

Even half-way through cooking, every ingredient is stacked in order of necessity and prep time, all perfectly aligned. Throughout the home, everything is in its proper place, stacked perfectly next to one another, parallel or at right angles.

So, they walk in, and there's my perfect little home... and a chaotic 4-foot tall doom pile of cardboard boxes right in the middle of my living room because I literally didn't notice it was there while cleaning (somehow), and I'd intended to break them down for recycling yesterday and just forgot.

My updated sleep schedule in recent years where I wake up every day at 6:30 has been really great.

Except when I go to cons. Now I get 3 hours of sleep, and then my body automatically wakes up far before anyone else is even around to hang out with.

I clearly need more points in the Lazy Feline skill.
