Traditionally, a haftsin ("7 S's") consists of a table with 7 items that start with the Persian letter "S" - these include Sabzeh (wheatgrass), Samanu (sweet pudding made from wheat germ), Senjed (sweet dry fruit of the lotus tree), Serkeh (Persian vinegar), Seeb (apple), Seer (garlic) and Somaq (sumac). Usually there are sweets (shirini), a book of Persian poetry and decorated eggs.
