Washed up boat in English Bay.
This is a pretty common sight on the beaches around here after winter storms, and it's always kind of sad to see - but makes for some unique photos at least.

This is a beetle in the genus Ellychnia, which is actually a kind of firefly - but since they're diurnal instead of nocturnal, they don't glow like other fireflies. I think they still look pretty unique though!

Catching the millipede while it was sitting still was probably the most difficult part of this - it kept running around and making my photos blurry.

This was on a sign in Stanley Park, Vancouver.
Getting into photographic tiny creatures is one of the big reasons I got a macro lens. Turns out it's pretty tricky to do well (especially since I don't have a flash right now), but I thought these shots turned out at least ok!

The moving trains and combination of standing and moving people makes this kind of longer-exposure photography a lot of fun to do.

Coming from Vancouver with our functional but very limited couple of Skytrain lines, seeing an actually-complete subway network for the first time was an eye-opening experience.
It was also a lot of fun to take longer-exposure photos in the somewhat dim stations. There's a lot more where these came from, so follow along if that sounds interesting!

This city is really exactly how you’d expect it to be. These photos are unedited, because I thought the Fujifilm JPG colours already looked pretty good out of camera (it’s a mix of the Classic Chrome film simulation mode and a couple custom colour/contrast parameters)

Don't worry, the camera is now safely back together and in one piece - well, minus two screws. Hope those weren't important.
(Also I'm kidding, it was an infrared filter, so what you're seeing is stuff that's bright in infrared showing up as pink)

Although most materials aren't particularly bright in infrared and appear more or less normal, certain pigments, materials, and living things (like all plants) reflect brightly, which shows up as pink in photos.
