Twitter recently launched Grok 3, the third iteration of its AI chatbot that Musk has praised as “maximally truth-seeking.” So here at the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism (GPAHE), we thought we’d find out what Grok thinks is the truth about Musk.

GPAHE ran a series of queries through Grok about Musk’s hateful online rhetoric, his links to extremists, and his far-right activism. The results were, to say the least, unflattering. Grok describes Musk as “dangerous” because “his position and megaphone make him a force multiplier for an ideology that’s already lethal.” Grok concluded that Musk fits the “fascist mold,” while his history of antisemitic comments places him “a step beyond generic fascism into Third Reich territory.”

Grok justifies this position by citing Musk’s rhetoric relating to the white supremacist “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory, which Musk has touted; his endorsement of the far-right Alternative Für Deutschland (Alternative For Germany, AfD) party in Germany; and his boosting of antisemitic and other hateful content.

A few years ago, the people behind the now-defunct white nationalist website VDARE bought a castle (yes, a castle) in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. It got a fair bit of coverage at the time, but there hasn't been all that much reporting on what they've been doing in there since then.

Now it's clear that the castle was the venue for a recent conference that brought a bunch of Patriot Front goons to town, along with a handful of leading antisemitic and "race science" intellectuals from around the US. And this is after the VDARE people promised to be nice, quiet neighbors.

On March 7-9 of this year, the neo-fascist American Freedom Party (AFP) held what it billed as its “National Convention” at a location that organizers kept secret from the public. Participants later said that it was in West Virginia without specifying where, however they did post photos from the conference online. A close examination of these images reveals that the conference took place at the Berkeley Springs Castle, which is owned by the people who ran the now-defunct white nationalist website VDARE.

The Brimelows’ presence has been a source of tension in Berkeley Springs from the start. Peter Brimelow has downplayed residents’ concerns, saying that he wasn’t organizing big rallies in town or doing anything disruptive and that “We just want to be quiet, good neighbors.” Yet the VDARE website also described the castle as a “meeting place” for like-minded people, and Lydia Brimelow stated during a 2022 podcast appearance that “My vision is it becomes a big hub of American patriotism.”

One reason why the recent conference is noteworthy is because it provided exactly the kind of “meeting place” that VDARE promised while breaking any sort of commitment to simply be “quiet, good neighbors,” highlighting the inherent contradiction between the two.

The "artist" responsible for much of Atomwaffen Division's propaganda has been found guilty in Canada and may be in prison for a very long time:

Patrick Gordon Macdonald, better known by his pseudonym Dark Foreigner, has been found guilty for participating in the activity of a terrorist group, facilitating terrorist activity, and the commission of offence for a terrorist group.

The verdict was handed down by Justice R Smith in an Ottawa courtroom as Macdonald had elected to have a judge make the ruling rather than a jury.

Smith found that the videos had two purposes: to “recruit new members” and to “promote” the Atomwaffen Division.

The Crown requested that Macdonald be held without bail, while Macdonald’s defence indicated they expected the sentencing to be quite long, pointing that their client has been on bail for the duration of the trial. Justice Smith ruled that Macdonald could remain out of custody until a bail hearing could be held.

Macdonald was previously released on bail after being arrested in July 2023. He entered a plea of not guilty before the court. The maximum sentences for his charges include life in prison, but the Crown has not indicated how much time they intend to ask for.

Honestly, I'm sure Elon does really want the WI Supreme Court (SCOWI?) to rule in Tesla's favor on the question of whether his car dealerships in the state need to be franchised, but I don't think that was really the main issue for him in this election.

More than anything, I think he wanted to establish himself as the go-to guy for funding for the entire GOP. A win would have created the impression that, in a moment of intense backlash against Trump, his money was what Republicans needed to win elections, and so he would get to pick who gets the sauce and who doesn't. He's already got a lot of power in that party, but this would have forced any grumblers to just stfu and eat whatever shit sandwich he wants them to eat.

I think this was a power move bigger than just a relatively minor (for him) matter of whether or not Tesla needs to be franchised in Wisconsin. McDonald's is also a franchise, so are most gas stations, so is 7-11, and McDonald's, Exxon, and 7-11 are not exactly unprofitable companies. It's an issue for him, but not something to bet the farm on. (Admittedly, he's not a rational person, and he seems to just get obsessive over dumb shit, so maybe I'm completely wrong about this, but ultimately I just think he was aiming higher than that.)

It's really well done and gets into both the background of how Terrorgram came to be in the first place and how its organizers groomed the teenager who eventually shot three people outside a queer bar in Bratislava, killing two of them. I recommend it for anyone who's interested in all of that. There are lots of details and illuminating observations throughout.

One warning, though: there is some rather violent footage early on, particularly from Unite the Right. I'm specifically kind of pissed that people *still* insist on showing the footage of the car attack, and without even any run-up -- just cutting straight to that moment, as though the world doesn't already know what happened, as though there were no living people whose lives were completely fucked up that day and may really suffer for seeing that yet again.

If that's an issue for you, maybe skip from around 7:00-8:10, and particularly right around the 8:00 mark. You won't be missing anything of value.

Yesterday, March 24, was the 49th anniversary of the coup that initiated seven years of dictatorship in Argentina, and the Enceuntro Memoria, Verdad y Justicia coalition marked the occasion with a massive demonstration in Buenos Aires and a published statement. The document covers a lot of ground, including an acknowledgement -- and an attack on the Milei government's denial -- of the 30,000 people who were murdered under the dictatorship, as well as demands that the participants in the kidnappings, torture, disappearances, and murder under the dictatorship be held accountable, that the repressive measures of the current regime be brought to an end, that present-day political prisoners be released, and that the IMF and its structural adjustment programs come to an end in Argentina.

If you're able to read it, it's worth taking a look. If I have the time and patience, I'll see about translating it and posting it somewhere. And again, I'd like to point out that, if you're concerned about fascists in power in the present day, particularly in the US, there's a lot to be learned by looking at fascism in the past at home and also by looking at how it has functioned elsewhere, and not just in Germany (though obviously there too).

Musk's use of a neo-nazi talking point re: empathy

There's been so much evidence over the course of at least a few years that Elon Musk has gone down a giant neo-nazi rabbit hole, but nothing -- not boosting antisemitic conspiracy theorists, not the Nazi salutes, not his embrace of the "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory -- really leaped out at me as much as when he recently started talking about Western civilization having "too much empathy".

The idea that "white people are highly empathetic and others regularly take advantage of that" is, in my experience, not something you see every day when you monitor white nationalist/neo-nazi spaces, but if you stick with it for a while, it does come out fairly regularly.

The point here is that, while it's not news to say that fascists are generally convinced (or at least pretend to be) of their own victimhood and use that to justify what you could call "hitting back in advance", the "too much empathy" thing is sort of a niche way of framing that. In my experience, you would have to be around pretty consistently over a fairly extensive period of time for that one to really sink in. So when someone spits that line out, it kind of instantly sounds to me like they've been hanging out with actual nazis. And I know it's also not news to point out that Elon Musk has overt fascists and even neo-nazis in his orbit, I do nonetheless think this level of closeness is worth documenting.

And if you want evidence of that particular rhetorical bit, all of the quotes below come to you directly from overtly Nazi/white nationalist social media accounts. They span a couple of years, and while it's not hard to find posts that use the words "white" and "empathetic", they're not all *that* common (whereas if you search for "great replacement" you'll get piles of hits just from today).

You could call this circumstantial evidence, and you'd be right. But a) I'm not actually trying to convict anyone, and b) in conjunction with every other indication that Musk believes in actual Nazi shit, I think this is a pretty strong indicator. It's *possible* that he just magically came up with this particular Nazi talking point all on his own, but the odds aren't that great.

I don't really want to post screenshots, and I sure as hell don't want to post links, so these are all copied and pasted. It's generally best not to share Nazi propaganda, but I think this is a point worth making, and I think there's enough context here to justify doing it. All spelling and grammatical errors are theirs.
