For the first time *ever*, Mama chose to stay warm and dry inside over going out in the rain.

I opened the door, and she ran through, hit the back deck, and stopped dead when she realized it was raining. For a moment, she looked conflicted, so I rattled her food bowl and she turned and came back inside.

That was yesterday. Today, she walked inside with no coaxing or rituals. Just a stretch, a hello, and a rub.

I think she's finally taken to domestication.

Miss Tortie has been on an antibiotic for the past week for what could be a UTI. (The vet could get no urine sample, but we thought a shotgun treatment would be a good start.)

She takes the pills very well, at least! I stuff them into a cat treat and she's none the wiser.

Last night, I found an enormous red puddle on one of the puppy pads. It's probably not a UTI; we might be looking at cystitis. Poor girl.

I can deal with it, but I'm not looking forward to Mom's grumpiness about it.

It's going to be raw and windy and wet tonight, so Mama and Tortie are spending their first night inside.

Tortie's been coming in and out at her leisure and has pretty well embraced the domestic life, but Mama is still very wild, and up until recently, she didn't want to come in unless the back door was cracked enough for her to leave at will.

As it got colder, however, she's starting to enjoy the nice, warm human house, and is tolerating it much better. Especially with me and Tortie with her.

I completed my very first project involving home wiring: swapped out the old light box in the ceiling for a new fan-rated box, reinforced the wooden bracing with extra wood screws, then wired and installed a new ceiling fan.

It took a LOT of research, and I had to double and triple check my connections before I proceeded. I'm wary, but it's working.

Bria escaped at one point and I had to help catch her and put her in her temporary house. Then I kissed them all and told them goodbye.

I'm going to miss them. But I'm so glad that they'll go to homes where they'll be loved and pampered. Every cat deserves a good home.

Meet Huck, Bria, and Chaise!

My guess is they were born about the first week of April. They're set to be fixed, vaxed, and dewormed in a couple weeks by our TNR vet.

They're miles ahead of where Luke and Leia were at that age; they don't fear me anymore, and they love getting pets. Still getting them used to handling and house noises.

A dear friend commissioned a painting that I had an absolute blast working on. Bonus points: I can cover Pixie's vet bills for the next couple months.

I tried something a little different from my usual technique, starting with brush-stroked shapes rather than line drawings, and I really liked the way it felt. Gonna experiment with that again in the future.

Got woke up early today because Mama was outside, waiting for her breakfast. I had been hoping to release Tortie while she was still around.

Mama really missed her. She was so happy to see her again. The moment she saw her, her tail shot up, and she popped up onto the porch and sniffed nose to nose.

She was so grateful, she let me pet her, and then kept presenting her flank for more. She even showed me her belly.

Then she followed Tortie around, headbutting and tail-hugging her.

Our feral cat and her friend are back from the clinic, spayed and vaccinated, flea-dropped and dewormed. It turned out they were both already pregnant. They'll never have to go through the stress of another.

The vet estimated that feral Mama has three babies out there somewhere. She was released as soon as she recovered. No signs yet of her return, but I'm optimistic.

Tortie is taking a recoup in our spare bedroom and is doing extremely well.

I'm so relieved. And very tired.

Feral mama and her stray friend have been trapped by a local TNR person and gone off to a clinic for surgery. Mom and I have been plotting this for a while, but the stars have finally aligned and we managed to get it done.

They'll be gone until tomorrow night. I miss them already, but I know they're in good hands.

After this momentary stress, they'll hopefully live a stress-free life without heats or pregnancies. Just long days lounging in the sun and rolling in the grass at the buffet.

For the last couple months, we've been feeding the feral mama of that little baby kitten we lost a couple years ago. We'd been catching glimpses of her at a distance since then, but by a stroke of luck, Mama realized (with the help of a friendly stray) that we had food and safety and started hanging around.

I'd been trying to gain her trust, and she'd started to tolerate my presence without running away.

Today, she let me pet her! She even purred! I was so happy, I cried.
