I got some new transistors from Mouser that I needed to test out so I built the Universal QRP Transmitter from Solid State Design for the Radio Amateur (page 26). The first transistor blew up because I didn't load the PA - luckily I bought 20 to experiment with. On 80m, the transmitter works well at 80% efficiency; 2.88W out, 300mA at12V in. #hamradio #homebrewradio #electronics

I found a CM Howes DCRX receiver on the local online fleamarket. I always liked those kits - simple but effective. The Howes DXR10 for 10,12 and 15m was my first receiver. Quite a complex kit for somebody who'd never made a kits before but it worked first time. The DCRX is much simpler with a balanced JFET mixer followed by an opamp and LM380 to drive headphones. The front-end filter/pre-selector is a series LC tuned circuit. #hamradio

I just wrote my first lexical analyser/scanner that supports UTF-8 in C++. It was harder than expected because wchar_t isn't guaranteed to be 32 bits, which you need for full Unicode support. Luckily there is char32_t and std::u32string but they lack support from std::cout so you need some extra fiddling to write them to the console. #development #cpp #compilers
