The goals of the grant are to study how people infer which parts of a scene belong to which objects, how the rich information provided by the projection of the 3D world into our eyes contributes to these inferences, and how these processes might be learned.

I am ideally seeking one person with experience with multifocal displays, and another with experience with inverse physically-based rendering.

Please pass this info on to relevant people!

I'm trying to work out why I find marking ("grading") essays and reports to be the absolutely most mentally draining aspect of my job. I think it's some combination of uncertainty around what bar to set for student work, writing useful feedback, and generally finding the content boring. I find it really difficult to achieve a marking *flow* state that I can with most other work. Any other suggestions, or tips? ("Use GPT to grade" is not the right answer).

Can anyone provide an argument why I would try out Julia for a new project. Is it just “speed”?

First candidate is a Bayesian modelling project. turing.ml seems promising, but for this project I don’t need categorical variables, which seems to be the main advantage over PyMC.

You can usually donate to your server to help! For example, I just set up a monthly contribution to my server fediscience.org via this page: fediscience.org/about

Think about it like Musk's $8, but you're supporting a community-run social space instead of a megalomaniac!
