Need some suggestions!
We've been asked to run a #DnD #ttrpg game for family. But I have a couple problems.
- we might have 7 players, plus GM
- the game will be online, which always exacerbates slowdowns and other problems
- we don't own any 5e books, and have no desire to give Hasbro any money at the moment

Can someone suggest a modern D&D-adjacent game that plays well with a higher player count? PF2e seems like it'll be too crunchy. 13th Age I haven't played with a big group yet.

Thoughts?

Annual game of #dread complete. One of our other players tried her hand at GMing for the first time. Went great, despite the usual first-time-GM worries that she wasn't doing good enough.

Hoping we have a new (occasional) GM on our hands. And we may have picked up a new player for our regular game as well.

All in all, huge success!

Our nephew has gotten into D&D through a school club and is having a great time playing his first character, a dragonborn fighter.

He now has a piece of art in his school's art show at the mall, and we're a very proud nerdy aunt and uncle!

Been thinking about how far this ogl news has spread, and how much of an effect it will have. Asked the rest of our local gaming group if they've heard about it - all three had!

- None of them are on social media. (Some facebook, not active.)
- None follow gaming news regularly.
- One doesn't play 5e at all, mostly just 3.5e (with other friends) and 13th Age (with us).

And yet all were justifiably upset and had Opinions(tm) about it.

So uh, yeah. News has spread further than I was expecting.

At times like this, I'm very glad I abandoned D&D in 2012 and am not invested in the 5e ecosystem.Yeesh. Good luck everyone.

The distributed nature of Mastodon, plus people moving to other platforms, reminds me so much of the mid-2000s blogging days back when we made the RPG Bloggers Network. We had a central feed for discovery (local/federated here), but you mostly just followed who you wanted, and it never stopped collaboration between those disparate people.

It's kinda nice.

I'm a Canadian gamer and engineer. I love 13th Age, Fragged Empire, and unironically 4e D&D and Shadowrun despite their warts.

I'm far more on the crunch side of RPGs than pure storytelling/acting, but I enjoy it all.

Besides that, you may see me talk about board games, video games, computers, ska or punk music, or anything else that piques my interest.
