It's super great to still get emails about floppy disks. 'It will never die. Just save as.' I remember talking with someone a few years back, I think I was in the midst of MA depression, a bit lost in my own ADHD mind and lack of most any directions. 'Never know the long tail of what you do.' It's hard to know what impression your work will have in the long run. Now, close to 10 years later... People are still talking and asking about my 'My Hard-Drive Died Along with my Heart' book. I know it's been referenced in a few student projects, and people are still asking about more floppy disk projects. Just sending a big thanks out in cyberspace. 💾 🙏 💾

A while back, I was invited to interview for the book DEATH-DESIGN-DATA about data death, the loss of files and digital memories by Cecilia Casabona and Ginevra Petrozz.

Questions that we discuss are: "What does it mean to mourn one’s data? Can we still talk about grief when your devices or cloud services fail us? "

I'm happy to say it's finally getting public, and today I received my copy of the book. I am looking forward to seeing and hearing people's feedback on the book and topic.

From my book "My Hard-Drive Died Along With My Heart" that I created based on my research doing my MA, I am happy it still resonates with people and people ask about the topic. I still, to this day, see a lot of articles still discussing the loss of access to images, data, digital memory, and the feeling of loss, grief, and feeling fooled to believe that years of data are "safe." Now, with the aggressive reuse of "old" data for AI learning models, it's a topic that will only will become more urgent.

I try to improve things, skills, portfolios, CVs, making them more ATS-friendly. Still, I can count on my fingers how many interviews I've had in the past few years.

Dead Web Club invites you to join the first of our Dead Web Cinema Club events, where we put the glowing beam of the projector on the topic of data, servers, hard drives, online forums, and virtual worlds.

Dead Web Club is an initiative that connects like-minded people with an interest in exploring the possibilities of the old web through its history, by looking at research and artistic projects. From defunct social media platforms to abandoned 3D worlds, and forgotten blogs, our aim is to create a community for creative discussion and foster projects that explore the many creative possibilities of web archaeology through online & offline meetings.

Sunrise With Sea Monsters charts the absurdly prophetic journey of a humble hard drive, from the domestic shelter of the desktop out into the perilous romance of the British landscape, to explore speculative ideas on memory, data, humanism and futurity. The film features conversations between the filmmaker and pioneering technologists who are developing data storage technologies for the long-term preservation of human knowledge, and radical thinkers who question the nature of reality, data, and the future of humanity.

Anyone thats good at TV repair ? Found a Hitachi 32HB4T62 tv on the street. Check the TV online and found it looks like a good gamble. Street tv in Rotterdam tends to not be broken or too broken. Often cosmetics or smaller issues. Already fix or found in working order 3 of 5 screens already..

So the issue, tv does not want to turn on and gives of a chirping sound, the sound comes from the power board, in the area circled in the photo. From what I can find online, it's possible a power supply issue or short circuit somewhere.

No bloated or leaky capacitor that was the last tv fix issue I had.

Tempted to just order a new power supply, but it's possibly a pricy fix for the tv, that I have no idea if the LED panel is working, it's a street trash tv after all.
