In the case of Fionn and Byron, yes, when they were in the same unit during the Great War, as they did a lot of… things to win the war and save lives. But they became adversaries when Byron condoned attacking civilians and their relationship broke when Fionn ranks to destroy a super weapon Byron coveted for his own ends.

Alex, Sam, and Gaby. They were the first 3 characters I ever created back in highschool and remained in every iteration of the story till the current one that has been published. The whole Tempest Blades story is their story in a way.

Failing to act when he noticed Byron's more violent nature. Of course the later was leader of his squadron a Crown Prince, but if Fionn had acted righta way, all the death and destruction from the Withered King would have been prevented.

Or so he thinks. Things are usually more complicated than that.

When Fionn feels impotent to protect those he cares about, especially when they are the one doing the sacrifice play.

It’s a good chunk of his motivation during the novels, the guilt he feels about his wife sidelining him with a temporal stasis spell while she dealt with trapping the Withered King’s soul outside reality the first time.
