This year I replaced the tires of my EV with new kow-noise Michelins. The improvement is unbelievable, so comfortable to drive.

Protests work. Making your voice heard, works. And yes, in the big scheme of things, it's really a small win, but one way big changes happen, is from a multitude of small changes slowly nudging the system forward.

`bc` is a language that supports arbitrary precision numbers with interactive execution of statements but doesn't give a damn about being usable and precise by default and happily drops all decimals unless explicitly instructed so.

https://hachyderm.io/@xanathar/1...

Today's random half-correct factoid is that behavior of System-DPI-aware applications somehow changed between late Windows versions, for sure between Windows Server 2019 and 2022, who knows about Windows 10 builds (great job at versioning there, btw /s).

Before, it behaved like documentation says and the application would start with the DPIs that the primary display had at logon time and never changes. After some build, the application starts with the DPIs the primary display has in that moment, and never changes.

The change makes sense, I can't see a rationale to unnecessarily limit to logon time unless the application wanted to interact (badly) with other system-dpi-aware applications that started before a DPI change. That seems too a corner case to matter/support.

But is the above correct? Empirical evidence seems to confirm it, but caveats might apply and documentation has never been updated to reflect this supposed change.

This week will mark 1 month of me using PaperWM on top of GNOME. I'm not sure I can ever go back. I just wish a few of the papercuts in PaperWM (pun half intended) weren't there (mostly: artifacts after changing displays layout, and craziness while taking screenshots on secondary monitors), but I suspect it's because of PaperWM stretching the limits Gnome Shell / Mutter to levels they were never meant to. Still, awesome way to interact with a desktop.

One scenario where LLMs work well: "how components implementing this corner case of this protocol should behave, and point me to the RFC and section that discusses this aspect".

First part gives a good summary and the second gives the actual reference and prevents hallucinations. Worst that can happen is that it's not the latest RFC on the topic, which isn't necessarily an issue.
