22.10.2023 19:49Vegan festival at SF Fair Building #SFVegAfter heroic legislative efforts to finally get speed cameras to SF, I was disheartened to read it will be years before we see them on a small number of streets. Please sign this petition to get the SFMTA to roll these out faster: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/speed-cameras-2023-10

A woman just rolled up to the Stonestown City Sports with 4 kids on her ebike for swim class! We commiserated that the 6 bike racks are full next to the 3000 parking spaces 😠.

(For a new car, which the median household is probably not buying these days.)
Besides making other modes more accessible, automakers need to start selling smaller vehicles again!

But housing is limited.
"It’s not a technical limitation, it’s a policy choice that we have chosen to reserve much of our [coastal] cities for surface parking lots, for exclusive single-family-home zoning." -my quote in @latimes

They encourage drivers to feel entitled to the whole car lane, and if I ride in the edge of the bike lane outside the door zone, drivers are prone to rage and honk or pass closely. #SFBike #StreetsForPeople #urbanism

Yesterday morning's activity was walking a mile under the Central Freeway spur in SF (I wore a 😷) with dozens of folks from YIMBY Latinx, @urbanenviroca, and others to reimagine what it could be if it was removed-- housing, green space, busways and bikeways?
Fittingly, we ended at a green where the old spur was removed after the '89 earthquake.

Fantastic oped by Farhad Manjoo today calling for the state to fund transit!
"And failing to fund transit seems unlikely to help the state’s finances — just the opposite. Buses and trains are not just a vital public service — they are vital economic infrastructure, no less critical to the state’s success than the roadways, railways, airports and shipping ports. Public transit is capable of generating far more in economic activity than it costs..."

29.5.2023 21:14Welcome to SF’s newest #SlowStreets member!Sometimes #ClimatePolicy analysts get confused when they see GHG emissions from ozone-depleting substitutes (HFCs) rising over time, and assume we made a tradeoff to save the ozone layer at the cost of more warming.
This couldn’t be farther from the truth. In fact, the Montreal Protocol is the most successful climate policy we have done so far. https://www.carbonbrief.org/montreal-protocol-has-slowed-loss-of-arctic-sea-say-scientists/?utm_source=cbnewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=2023-05-27&utm_campaign=Daily+Briefing+23+05+2023 via @carbonbrief
The confusion generally stems from the exclusion of CFCs from GHG inventories due to historical artifact. (The Kyoto Protocol didn’t cover them since they were already covered by the Montreal Protocol, not because they weren’t warming agents.)
