As I’ve been ramping up figuring out running an ActivityPub instance, I’ve not been able to easily identify an authoritative #Meta/#Project92/#Threads block list.

Mostly, it’s hard to disambiguate the reality from the noise. Could you share yours from BSD.network? I’m asking you because I trust you as a source versus random searches.

I’d ask Gibs but he’s underwater with the HT upgrade madness lol.

I’m resurrecting this alias. In all the kerfuffle with Meta federation, my primary handle these days (https://hackers.town/@zbrown) is on an instance that has collectively restricted federation. Im totally cool with that, but a side effect is I can’t access certain folks profiles I’d like to follow.

So here we are. Hello again.

After three days of watching #sumo, Wakatakakage and Tobizaru are quickly becoming my favorite Rikishi to watch. I like the throws and speed they display versus the brute strength of some other Rikishi. That’s not to diminish the others, I just really like leverage.

Dear #lazyweb - I’m trying to remember the name of an app that let you build “feeds” for arbitrary sites. The app ram locally on your machine - no remote service. I also remember it having a CMYK theme and an odd name like “Snoopleboob” or something.

Does anyone know what I’m trying to find?

Well I left it unplugged overnight fully charged and it went from 100% to 99% battery. Yet another surprise. Used to seeing at least 5-7% consumed if unplugged and often more like 10-15%.

Well I got an M1 MacBook Pro for my new work computer. Didn’t really have any expectations about it but WOW is it faster then a top spec’ed Intel i9 MBP.

It’s the fastest computer I’ve used in a while from a “human perception” perspective. Websites load faster with the same plugins, browser windows launch faster, programs open faster. It’s wild.

I waffled for so long on whether to get an EV that I accidentally self selected into a pair of electric cargo bikes between the partner and I.

Maybe an EV some day, but we’ll just use the bikes instead. Cheaper and some bonus exercise to go with it.

Behold, I have made Rugbrød. I thoroughly ignored most of the timing instructions for this recipe so we’ll see how it goes.

Every time I make bread, I mostly ignore the timing and go long on each step, fitting steps in whenever they make sense. This hasn’t been a problem for me so I’m starting to think people’s obsession with adherence to the timeline is just noise. My bet is the timeline is largely useful for pro bakers so that they can ensure consistency of product.

Over the years, I’ve tried to go full Linux/BSD for my computers. It never stocked because there are a few macOS apps that aren’t easily replaceable for me. I’m okay with that but it’s always an interesting experiment to try.

The list of indispensable apps includes:

- DEVONthink - a personal database with OCR support
- Tinderbox - a proto-Roam/Obsidian/Logseq but with more power and flexibility. Think mind mapping meets notes meets database meets emergent structure.
- Lightroom - despite my best efforts, I can’t leave this one behind. I’m just a lot faster in Lightroom
