Quoted posts have other benefits too - if the original post is lost then you lose your "retweet", and replies make less sense than had you composed it as a quote. If you are interested not so much in conversation, but an archive of thoughts, then quotes make more sense than replies.

They also have the benefit of explaining why you are "retweeting" - it gives context to the "retweet".

At the end of the day, a quote is just a reference. If you have referenceable toots and link previews then you _de facto_ have "quote toots".

I don't want to reply to the toot as he's clearly stated his position and I'm not interested in discussing it with him, I want to discuss it within my social circle.
