The Data Justice Hub at Concordia University is calling for participants in a workshop on Mobilizing Data for Justice from May 5-7. This workshop will help activists & critical researchers learn methods for making sense of & engaging with data in social struggles. To know more: datajusticehub.ca/workshop/

We have invited activists from around the world to share their experiences doing data activism. To learn about our presenters: datajusticehub.ca/workshop/par

The event will be interactive, emphasizing dialogue, with the aim of creating opportunities for activists and researchers to troubleshoot ideas together. Send us any specific questions or data needs you would like us to explore during the workshop.

To attend the workshop IN PERSON, you can register here: docs.google.com/forms/d/13gK8-

To register for our ONLINE sessions, please go here: docs.google.com/forms/d/1TK9mu

Please note that we will need to limit in-person attendance for some sessions. We will prioritize attendance for community activists working in these areas, though we will seek to accommodate other participants as best we can.

In recognition of time, energy, and resources required to attend for community groups, we offer a small bursary for activists of up to $250. You can apply for it before March 31st by filling out the form here: drive.google.com/drive/u/0/fol or directly from the registration form.

Large-scale, spontaneous civic unrest started to unfold across China on Saturday to protest against China’s “zero Covid policy,” following a condo fire that took away at least 10 lives in Urumqi, the provincial capital of Xinjiang. Protests happened in more than 15 provinces, and they’re happening right now.

Students from more than 79 Chinese universities participated. Many of them held high a blank white sheet of paper to protest – against whoever or whatever tried to shout them up.

It’s the student recruitment season for universities and graduate schools in North America. As a former Chinese student studying in the US and a current faculty member in Canada, I call for universities and graduate schools in these countries to open arms to embrace these brave students.

These protesting students – they are the best young people in China. They are inspiring older generations like mine. Imagine how much courage, determination, and love of their fellow citizens it must take for one to stand up and shout out in an authoritarian country like China. They were not born in a country giving them these rights to speak up or to protest; instead, they fought for it with their bright future.

Support Chinese students.

The first time that Du Bois' article, L’Ouvrier Negre en Amérique, was translated from French into English, by my Ph.D. advisor Dr. Aaron Major. "Through a combination of rich, original data and sharp political analysis, this article examines the position of Black craft and industrial labor after the Civil War. [Du Bois'] analysis, which draws special attention to the role that White organized labor played in denying Black workers access to union protections and opportunities to work in new, lucrative fields ..., resonates powerfully with today's interest in the White working class."

Is anyone familiar with the peer-review process at the journal Politics & Society? It seems that the journal does not have *revise & resubmit*; instead, it’s *reject & resubmit* to be "reread and rediscussed by the entire board". journals.sagepub.com/author-in

I wonder: Is R&R submission at Politics & Society subject to another round of external review with different reviewers, or is it in-house review?

Hello Mastodon friends, time to myself.

Born in China, trained in the US, and working in Canada, I am an assistant professor of at University, Montreal.

My research project focuses on rethinking from a sociological perspective, but I also study and teach , power & society in general. A methods nerd, I love discussions of research design & methodology, just as I love my cats.

Since we're talking about cats, any cat person around?
