I've got a bunch of DVD's (at least hundred of them) of varying age. What format and software would you recommend to convert them into so I can get rid of the physical medium? Criteria for the choice should be durability (I'd like to be able to access them in, say, 20 years with or without conversion) and pricing of the tool to be used. Open source preferred but not required. As storage medium I will use hard drives (with a redundant copy).

I am a bit surprised to see this setting in Firefox Mobile. What the heck are they forwarding to their marketing partner? Why was this turned on by default? Is this even GDPR compliant? Which version has introduced this nonsense?

I'm putting the blame for this particular situation on Dell (most other OEMs) are not much better either. They get a small commission from MS and cause by magnitudes more damage to their customers.

My preferred solution is (when not 100% MS compatibility is required AND friend/client is willing to invest time/effort into learning LibreOffice and Linux) is to ditch MS products. Otherwise you could also replace pre-installed Windows from microsoft.com/ro-ro/software-d
The license is baked into the motherboard, anyway.

Hi fellow Fediversians,
I've got a fairly old iMac from a family member. Does anyone know a utility or script that allows liberating it from the monster called iPhoto and export it to a file system folder structure? The archive is rather big (~30Gb) and the MacOsX version is old 10.5.8 (I guess it doesn't yet have Python 3). I would need to preserve the folder structure as an absolute requirement.
Many thanks for any hints.

What's the best way to run a Mastodon poll, that I would like to be visible on 3 different instances? It is likely uninteresting for the rest of the fediverse. Note, that I am not located on either of those instances (it is about certain translation-related choices of Fedilab for my mother tongue).

I've just inherited a Dell XPS 17 with Quad-Core i7 CPU with 8 GB, good battery and a broken screen. After booting up I can see everything on an external display, Broken as in I can't see anything on it. I wonder if a docking station would allow me to boot it such that I can see everything on an external display, including the BIOS/UEFI phase. If yes, which docking station would you recommend? (as far as I could see there isn't one like for the Latitude E-series)

@moznews I highly welcome the arrival of Firefox Send. It's better than the probably all free/non-free alternatives (higher size limits, easy to use, no advertisements, some controls to allow for expiration) . There are caveats for the really privacy conscious though:
- better if password is set before upload (providers can always err - malicious or not)
- with no account is severely limited (not useful for anything but one-off send). Feels like waterholing, but sure it prevents misuse also
